You can foster too if you get a chance alot of them are longer term but you have to wait for that too I am getting a puppy when it is born I am on the waiting list I really like raising my own I have figured out this way too I get exactly what I want I adopted Harley because at the time I didn't want to raise a puppy but now am ready I am getting a flashy fawn male puppy when my breeder has one, next one will be an adoption again

I feel that a lot of people apply on a whim for rescues after I have started working with a boxer rescue

That is so true. I think only about 25% of our applicants end up adopting. The percentage may be even lower. When we get an application our application committee responds within 24 hours (usually with some follow-up questions and stuff like that). Then we have a volunteer who does a veterinary reference check. That usually takes a couple of days and involves one or more long distance calls. If all goes well, the application is processed fairly quickly. But even then, many applicants have already gone out and bought a puppy out of the paper. Or, after they thought about it more, they realized that they weren't willing to drive two hours to meet a dog. Stuff like that.

Plus, if someone sees a cute dog on our website and THEN applies, yeah, the dog is probably going to be adopted by the time their application is processed (particularly if the dog is young and doesn't have any real "issues").

It does sound like some rescues are overly slow in responding to people, though. Just my personal opinion but I don't think it's too time-consuming just to send at least a quick response to let someone know that their application was received and to thank them for their interest in Boxer Rescue.

The phone interview is the second step in our process it takes 45 minutes to do it then you have to type it all in and send it to the adoption comittee, that ties up your evening almost. all these people are volunteers and spend alot of time devoting themeselves to these wonderful creatures

Update on our adoption

I talked to the lady at the rescue today and the people who she was trying to get come do our home visit have gone to their summer home and won't be back till October! :( :(

She is trying to get a hold of another lady that she use to know in our area who also has a Boxer Rescue to see if she will come and do the home visit on her behalf.

I am being patient trying....because I know that the more patient I am the more worth it that it will be!
