Well, as usual, I spent my lunch hour going up to the local shelter to visit "Dude" (an 11 year old boxer). He was turned in by his family because they were moving and couldn't keep him.  I know...I Know....

He's such a sweet and kind and gentle soul; I just can't imagine him spending the rest of his life in this shelter.

Anyways....while I was there I ran into a newcomer. He arrived today and his name is Rocky. He's a flashy dark brindle male with cropped ears and the sweetest little face. His card says "wanted too much from his family".

Doesn't this just infuriate you? I cannot imagine giving away one of my pets. What kind of people do this?? Especially Dude, he's so calm and gentle; yet so lovable and fun.

Ugggg:( :(

Oh it kills me to hear this! I wish I lived closer. I hope that Dude finds his forever home soon and gets out of the shelter. I don't understand either how you have a pet for 11 years and then cannot bring them with you during the move.

My prayers are out that Dude & Rocky find their forever homes.

What shelter are these guys at, and about how old is the newcomer? My wife and I are looking looking to get a boxer and are considering adoption.

I know... I've been BEGGING my husband to let me adopt Dude. His comment is "you can't help them all".

We have three boxers, three cats and we foster cats in our home, so we can have as many as 5 foster cats at one time. I like for Dude to have a safe and loving home for his final years, but my husband is right.....I can't save them all.

They are at Orphans of the Storm in the Northern Suburbs.

If you are anywhere near I-94 (Edens) you could get there from Evanston in about 20 minutes.

Take the Edens to I-294 heading Northbound.

Just past the toll booth, you'll take the first exit ramp (I believe it's Deerfield Road). Take a left (West) on Deerfield and take that down to to the first stop light. Take a right and Orphans is a white house like structure on the right hand side.

If there is anywhere that a unwanted dog or cat should be, it should be at Orphans. They have the most unbelievable facility, staff, etc, etc, etc..... I can't say enough good about them.

Rocky is 3 years old and just beautiful. If you are interested, you better hurry because he's a beaut and won't last long (he's right in the front of the kennels).

He is good with kids and other dogs and was kidney beaning and happy when I went over to see him. He's smaller, probably only 50 pounds or so and appears to be in VERY good shape.

Thanks for the info. I know of Orphans and they do have a nice program. My father and stepmother adopted a German Shepherd from there when I was younger.

Thanks again.

Looking for a playmate

I have been looking for a playmate for my Boxer Buster who is 2 years old. I am new to the area. So I didn't know of any places to look. We deceided to go rescue since he is a rescue also. I live in the NW Indiana area and am close to Chicago. Thanks for the information about Orphans.
