I took duke in yesterday for his physical and vaccinations at 8 weeks of age. They also did a fecal check which came back negative. The vet said she wanted to give the med anyway even though it came back negative. Well guess what? I took him out this morning and found one worm in his stool! Is this common the fecal test is negative but they really have it? The breeder has papers of when she wormed the litter 3 times prior to this. Since he already had the intial med and I see worms now, how many times does he need to be treated? Just one more time to get rid of the eggs? Thanks for your help!

Yes it can happen. Your dog may have just started to develop worms and they had not yet been in his poo. My Vet said he is going to worm Chopper with each set of shots, which he gives three weeks apart. Hope that helps.

I have not got a drontal packet in the house to check, but Im sure Buster had treatment at very regular intervals untill 6 months. My mind has gone blank, but Im sure it was the panacur granules he had first over 3 days and then the drontal plus tablets every 2 weeks. It is worth asking your vet about.
Have you considered trying a little minced garlic in the food, gradually increasing as the dog gets older , to about 1 clove a day? I do it or just add a garlic pearl. I dont rely on this for worm control but feel every bit helps.
Clearing up the 'waste' straight away is also a good idea too.
All the best.

Just had Dixie in for a check last week and the fecal came back negative but still gave me 2 syringes to give to dixie for medication. Havent seen worms yet so don't know if it is common. I would suggest that if you have a petsmart with banfield vet services in it they have a great wellness plan it will save lots of money on everything. because everyythibng is covered under it. I saved 200 dollarts by signing her up when i took her inn for a check up.
