All I can say is take 30 mins and do a search on petfinder for boxers. The numbers will astound you! Plus, majority of these boxers "up for adoption" are owner surrenders and strays. Usually they are 1-2 yrs old. Many reasons for these ironies. Oh, and majority were purchased from BYB's!!!! You will rarely see a reputibally bred boxer in a rescue, unless there is very good reason for it. The rest were "cute puppies" that uneducated owners who did not do their research on puppy-to-family matching and "bought" a poorly bred boxer from ignorant willy-nilly breeders. Yes, ALL boxers are cute, but a very small percentage, like less than 10% are healthy enough with clean lineage to be bred.

If you really want to help a boxer, contact rescues and wait for that perfect pup from an unwanted litter.......don't give any money to an ignorant breeder who is only in it for the money! Purchasing BYB puppies or Mill Puppies are just promoting their franchise. Please reconsider rescueing a puppy and not proliferating these money mongors.

I'm sorry for your recent loss and happy that you're ready to add another wonderful bundle of joy to your family. I also imagine that it's a bit dis-heartening to read some of the responses to your announcement.

I have good friends who show and breed English Bulldogs and Boxers. Kona's daddy is one of their dogs. We chose to spend the extra money to get a puppy from a repeat breeding of health-tested, proven champion parents. We also spent a lot of effort choosing the right litter to pick from - temperment is inherited. We wanted a healthy SANE boxer. It's no guarantee, but we at least know we did all we could. I am way too soft hearted to go through the loss of a beloved pet knowing I could have done anything more to prevent it.

I personally don't have an issue with the dad being white (there's talk about AKC accepting white as an official color again) except the chances of him being health tested are ridiculously slim. And from what you wrote, I question if the breeder is being honest with you. Something just doesn't add up. I admit - when we first looked at puppies I wanted to save some money and we saw a litter advertised in the paper. Too many red flags and I had to walk away with tears in my eyes. I wanted to "rescue" all of those puppies, but that would have been the exact wrong thing to do.

If I were in your shoes I'd want to know something about this littler and the parents:
1) How many litters has this bitch had? (with the current owner)
2) Was this litter planned? How did they pick the daddy (fence hop? play date taken too far? or was it intentional? if so, then why a white male?)
3) Are they spaying the bitch after this or will they continue to breed her (trying to find out if this is an "oops" or if they really are unethical BYB)
4) Can the breeder give you a reference from any of the previous puppy buyers?
5) Who is their vet? Can you contact him/her and discuss the health of the bitch? Not that this replaces health testing, but maybe you can ask if they've ever heard a heart murmur, etc.

If they squirm with those kind of questions, they proably aren't telling you the truth. I'd have less concerns if this was a "we took our unspayed rescue to a play date and guess what happened". That means they're irresponsible, but not in it for a quick dollar at the animal's expense. And of course, this is just my opinion. I wish you the joy of a wonderful new family member and am thrilled to my toes for you...I just want it to be the 'right' puppy to bring you many years of joy and slobbers.

The AKC could care less about color as long as the dog is purebred and came from two registered purebred parents. The AKC is a registry body only - they don't set the standard, the breed clubs do. And you should have issue with dad being white, because he was bred. Why would you purposely breed dog more likely to pass on deafness to it's pups? Would you breed a dog with a known cardio condition? I hope not.
