You may want to try Bachs Rescue Remedy. It's an all herbal flower essence that helps to calm and alleviate stress and it's human grade. Most health food stores carry it as well as some larger grocery stores with organic sections. If you cannot find it at a store try going to Whole Foods or Wild Oats websites and you can order there.

You also may want to leave a t-shirt or something with your scent on it so Jake will feel like you are close by.

Also, in regards to Jake's diet, try giving him some raw chicken or turkey wings. Chicken is usually best to begin with because of the smaller size. The dogs love it and it's a great way to keep them from chewing on things they shouldn't. If you can, also try to vary his diet a bit more outside of canned food. Unfortunately most of the canned stuff has byproducts at the top of the ingredient list and it can be chicken beaks, feet, etc. Yuck! If you'd like some quick soft food recipies let me know.

Our white boxer, Katy, had similar little bald spots. We assumed it might be allergy related, but the vet could never pinpoint a specific cause. We recently switched from Nutro Lamb and Rice to Wellness Lamb and Rice and the spots seem to be going away. Since there are so many potential variables, its hard to always pin it on food, but it did help in our case.

Both of our boxers have allergies in the summer. Our female has a bald spot that forms on her head only during the summer, at 1st i thought it was mange but they did a skin scrape and it wasnt then they found out it was allergies. Our male scratches his arm pits and chest until raw so we wipe him down in those areas with witchhazel (sp?)
