Weird green discharge...!

Hello everyone...this is strange and definitely worth a trip to the vet!

I have just discovered some odd green discharge at the tip of Magoo's penis...the opening looks a little red, but not terribly so.

I gently washed it off with a warm, wet (NO SOAP!) washcloth, and he sidestepped away from me...perhaps the area was a little tender.

Anyone else ever had this problem with their furbabies? He is 18 months old now, and this is the first time I've ever seen this!!! Otherwise he's fine! Drinks plenty of water, eliminates well, washes himself normally...

The discharge is normal, and green is not neccessarily bad, but could indicate a mild infection. A trip to the vet is a good idea.
Let us know how he is, we hope he feels better soon!

I had a Chow-Chow who had the same thing all his life. He used to leave little spots on the floor, and the vet never said anything about it. I don't think it is anything to be alarmed about. Have the vet just double check him though.

Thank you for your input! This is my first Boxer, and I just like to make sure he's ok. I'll keep you all posted as to what the problem is!

My vet said it was normal; that there is a type of mucus that covers the penis, and when the dog gets "excited" the smegma will remain at the tip of the sheath when the penis goes back where it came from. But hey, who knows?

And they say boys are easier! LOL!!!

I wonder what it would have been like if I'd picked a girl...I would have to have the birds-and-bees talk with her, and tell her about periods!

Hi Magoo's Mama,

Well let me start off by saying when I first saw that green stuff all over my denim couch I thought my male puppy was dying of a penis infection. I rushed to the vet with no appointment! I ran in and told the front desk ladies that there was somthing wrong with my dogs penis. They all started to laugh and put me in room three. The vet came in and told me that it was like a human males premature ejaculation. Not to worry that puppies get excited too. I thought that I was going to die of embarassment. To this day it is still a joke at the vet. Since he has been neutered I don't see it at all. However, my other baby boy still has it and now I don't worry so much. The things we parents go through!!
