weird bump on the shoulder

We just noticed that our BooBoo had a raised bump on his shoulder about the size of a dime. One the edge of it we found bloody hair, which made me think that it was a cut of some kind. We put hydrogen peroixide on it and he didn't flinch a bit, which I thought was weird. It took care of the blood, but now I'm worried that it could be more than what I think it is...

should I take him in to the vet? have you guys seen anything like this?

Since my first post, the hair around this bump has come off very easily with a little prodding from me. I then applied anti-biotic cream to the area, thinking it's just really a cut.

This morning hubby took BooBoo in to the vet just in case since we had already made an appointment... the vet is keeping him to do a biospsy of the cells... he thinks it could be ring worms, a tumor, or the worse possibility the beginning of cancer...

I'm trying not to panic, I'll be picking him up at 4ish so that I can speak to the vet myself to get all the details...

My poor Courage, I kept telling her this morning that her BooBoo will be right back, thinking that it was just a cut... but now she's sitting at home wondering why BooBoo's been gone so long... :(

Well just came back from the very busy vet office. He said that of all the cells in the sample that he took, all of them were white blood cells except for one mast cell. But he said that one mast cell within in infected skin cell sample is not abnormal.... so BooBoo is put onto Cephalexin for the next 14 days and he said if the skin doesn't return normal soon after that, then go back and he'll remove the whole thing, regardless of whether it could be a benign mast cell tumor...

So I'm not so sure I understood the whole diagnosis, but he did start his greeting with "good news"... if someone knows how to explain what he said in lay man's terms, please help me. I have him back at home at least and no immediate danger, I'm very thankful for that.

I think what the vet was telling you was that the fluid he extracted from that lump is typical of an infection or some other kind of response to injury/bacteria/etc. White blood cells are deployed by the body in response to injury/infection. Mast cells release histamine that help fight inflammation. It's not unusual to see some mast cells in a fluid sample from a lump or bump that is an infection or some kind of inflammation. The fact that there was only one mast cell in the sample is a good sign. More mast cells in the sample might indicate a mast cell tumor. FYI, there is no such thing as a benign mast cell tumor. Grade 1 tumors are least aggressive and tend to behave much more like a benign growth than Grade 3 tumors.

Chances are the lump/bump is just some kinds of inflammation, infection, abscess, etc.
