Hi everybody

I had a chance to weigh Jake yesterday at the vet ,so I did.

He weighs a very solid 61.2 lbs @ 1yrs old. its "Official"

The vet was surprised that he was only 1 becuase she was like hes very muscular "Hes at his Fighting weight" was her comment to me. The vet even called out her staff from the rear of the vet hospitol to show My Jake to them, they were very impressed from the comments that I heard.

anyways Im just giving others a wieght to jusdge their dog by or Jakes weight against theirs, what ever works.

I do say this I thought he was heavier becuase hes thick and muscular but i guess not, their looks are very deceptive!

I also think sometimes like ive heard on hear that owwners want to beef up their dogs w/ more food. I think this is very bad idea

The approach ive taken is premium food and lots, lots of exercise or activities, this equals a much better looking dog than a dog who just eats alot. Anyways my opinion but ive had awsome results from it. So far so good.

Ill put some new pics up when i get a chance but you can see some older pics at

I'll second how deceptive the weight of a boxer can be! I've mentioned before that Diego has been 70lbs from 8-15.5 mos. All the while growing tall and filling out nicely. I know he's going to be a big boy and I try to weigh him every month just to see how's progressing. I haven't increased the amount of food either. He's always been tall and lean and just recently he's put on .5 lb here and there; currently he's @ 72 lbs, 27"h at withers.

P.S. Jake is a handsome boy!

I knew some one that had a boxer that was skinny and they were going to put a harness and strap a weight sled to it so the dog would have to drag it around. What a stupid way to "beef"up a dog. They would also feed it just waht ever they could afford to buy and then sometimes they would feed scraps off the table.
Notice I said KNEW them.I dont talk to them any more due to alot of stuff......

Whats up everybody

Well I do agree that making a dog pull weights all day with no type of rest is mean. I do think that weight pulling for a dog who is conditioned for this type of exercise is a great way to get awsome muscleature and conditioning but not the only way and certainly not forced upon the dog all day.

I myself plan to get Jake into weight pulling for conditioning but also for fun & hopefully even some competition.

When I was a new boxer owner with Jake I was told that If I got him pulling tires all day that he would really grow but see thats what I think is mean becuase the dog does not rest from this and aslo can dammage a young dogs skeletol system. Never would approach pulling something in this manner!

Ive seen dogs who owners do the weight pulling thing the responsible way, look incredible. Its just amazing how dogs can get that muscled and fit.

I hope to reasearch as much as I can before I attempt just strapping weights to him so that we both have fun and its safe for him! Anyways just thought ii would say this, ya know what I mean jellybean.

Does anybody have first hand experiance doing this?

Weight pulling as a sport is fine & dandy (although, I'll mention again for those who might not have seen earlier posts, the Boxer was not designed and is not built for it, so while I'm sure they can handle the job it is probably not going to be their strong point). Weight pulling as a form of conditioning is an improper use of the sport. The dog shoud be conditioned *in preparation for* weight pulling. Once the dog is good condition (and at the proper age) you begin with the weights, and work up to pulling condition. Just think - Arnold Schwarzenegger did not wake up one morning and try to bench press 800 lbs. It took years of training and conditioning to get to his Mr. Universe body.

Maybe I am an oddball....

I think any Boxer that gets adequate food and exercise will be fit and handsome. I imagine the predisposition to extreme muscles would be relative to genetics mostly.

Rebel and Blue are both lean and leggy and I don't concern myself that they won't win any "muscle or weight competitions" I would not imagine strapping tires to them to beef them up :( I am just happy I have 2 Boxers who are happy and healthy.

To get back to the original topic of Boxer weight, Dempsey my fully filled out male was 67.5 lbs/24 inches at 3 yrs 1 mo. and Marcie my rapidly growing sweet princess female was 33 lbs at 5 mos.
