I Have Two Boxers, My Fawn Male (dakota) Is 9 Months Old And Weighs About 54 Lbs. He Has A Lot Of Skin Left To Grow Into, I Think? Lets Just Say That He Doesnt Meet The Breed Standard For A Tight Fitting Coat. If Anyone Could Tell Me If He Should Grow Anymore I Would Be Very Thankful. I Heard That Boxer Dont Stop Growing Until 18 Months. On The Other My Reverse Brindle Girl (bella) Is 4 Months Old And One Of The Most Beautiful Boxers I Have Ever Seen. She Weighs About 30 Lbs Right Now And Is Gaining Two Pounds Of Muscle Every Two Days. I Will Post Some Pictures Tomorrow. Ryan

Boxers tend to grow pretty quickly for the first few months. I swear that sometimes my girl had grown overnight!
The general consensus is that boxers will continue to grow UP (height) until about 18 months old and then continue filling out anywhere between 2-3 years old.
At one year of age I am sure that your guy still has some growing to do. Do you know the sizes of his parents? That will give you a pretty good guide to go by.

thanks for your reply

thank you for replying to my message. however, i had purchased him from a pet store and I was unable to meet the dam or sire. he still has a lot of loose skin and I can see that his muscle is still developing. on the other hand my 4 month old female was purchased through a breeder. her father is 85 lbs and the mother 75 pounds. i feel that she will be a big girl. another thing is that he is not the best eater. I mix some other things in his food to make it more appealing to him. put this can become a pain sometimes, as I feed himat five in the moring before i go to work.

I am becoming more concerned regarding dakota's weight. He has not packed on a pound in quite some time and still has a tremendous amount of loose skin. RIght now he is about 231/2 inches at the shoulders. It just seems that compared to other boxers he is very narrow and awkward. I am almost certain that I am over reacting, but I just feel that he will be this size forever. I know that this makes my girlfriend happy. She has enough trouble lifting him into the car allready. My vet said that this may be his size forever, but this is coming from a vet who said that he was full grown at 7 months and 44 lbs. So I just don't know what to think anymore. Well I love my little man and he is the best boxer in the whole world. Well thanks for listening to me being a worry wart of a parent. Ryan

i wouldn't worry too much. dogs grow at all different rates. i don't think you can expect your dogs to grow every week, as sometimes they grow in huge spurts, and other weeks they seem to have stagnated. Your boy is still very young, and still has A LOT of growing to do. Boxers generally grow in height until about 16mos, then continue to fill out (weight) until 3yrs old. You can look at the sire and dam to get an idea of what size your boy will eventually be. Just continue to feed him the best food possible, don't worry about extra exercising, and let nature do her thing. :D enjoy him while he's "smaller" because before you know it, a 75lb dog will still be in your lap, pushing you out of YOUR bed, and dragging you down the street.. good luck!

ps. your boy is already in the height standard for males, and he is most likely still growing. ;) weight will come, and when it does, be careful to not let too much come..

I think regarding the gaining a lb of muscle everyday, which is really the same as what you said "two lbs every 2 days"... That if she gained that much in a week she most likely grew everywhere, not just in muscle.

I agree with you 100%. It was just hard for me to tell exactly where she was growing. It looked like it was all muscle to me. She only grew that much during that particular week however. She has slowed down quite a bit since then, bella is about six months and weighs about 43-45lbs and his 19 inches at the withers. Does this sound likea normal size to anyone for a six month old.

boxers come in all sizes. he may well be small for his age. but at 9 months he has not stopped growing by all means. try not to worry as long as he is eating and playing he will be fine no matter what size he is. 54 lbs is pretty good for a 9 month old imo
