Weight Pulling is when dogs are harnessed to a cart or something like that and the carts are weighted with hundreds of pounds. I've seen on Tv, where they use a bunch of big bags of dog food. The dogs have to pull it across the finish line in a certain amout of time. I'm not too sure what my opinion on weight pulling is... but I know for sure that my Samson would just stand there and whine. I couldn't see him doing that.
I think it comes from a desire to have a MUSCULAR dog, apparently nature won't work fast enough or do a decent job of filling out those young dogs.
I can't imagine it is healthy, or fun for the dog.
Boxers arent meant to be mushing dogs though, their coats are not suited to harsh winter climates. Sure Boxers live and play and even exercise in harsh weather, but sled/Mushing dogs pull as part of a team, and they are in the elements for very long periods of time.
Weight Pulling is a canine sport I imagine that in this sport there is the great, good, bad and downright ugly elements - as with many canine (and other) sports.
It's not something I'm inclined to do with my Boxers as we are busy enough as it is, and I don't think this sport has hit down under yet. I would doubt that the pull itself is going to give a dog a structure they were not born with The actual conditioning and training for pulling, as with the conditioning and training for other sports, could help keep a Boxer nice and fit if done correctly.
The dogs I've seen on Tv doing the weight pulls have been American Bulldogs and Pit Bulls. I can't believe how much weight some of those people will stack on the carts for the dogs to pull! Some of those Bulldogs and Pits look to be straining so much. I would think some of them would hurt themselves trying so hard to pull the weight.
