Weight pull- a lot of fun....

Boxer Insane
Our training center has a somewhat active weight pull group that has practices once a week. Johann and I were already there for our rally obedience class and decided to stick around and give it a try. I felt a bit out of my element- it was all big bulldog/pit bull mixes that were solid muscle.

However, it was a group of super nice people and dogs that really liked what they were doing. Lots of toys, clapping, positive motivation.....no negative methods are allowed.

Johann took to it fairly quickly. He wasn't bothered by the harness :), the sled behind him making noise (I guess most dogs are worried about it), or all the people watching him. He did love the constant supply of cookies and getting to play a big game of tug. We did 3 short pulls, 2 with 1 cinder block for weight (the first pull was an empty sled with someone holding the back to make sure it didn't hit him). He was all wiggles and goofy boxer-ness....it was hard to get him to actually pull and not stand there trying to get kisses. :p

I doubt that we'll compete in it, but we will be going to the center's fun pulls and practices from now on. And the best part........Johann is exhausted. I know the sport has had some negative posts on here about it, so I thought I'd offer a different perspective. Video will be posted later this week. :)
