Just wanted some input on when to ween your puppy off the crate. I have my 7 month old girl in the crate during the day while I am at school(teacher). What is a good age and how do you beging the weening?

I don't think there is a good age, its when you can trust your dog alone in the house. Ryker and Ozzy only stayed in their crates at nite time till they stayed put. During the day I started by making sure they had sufficient toys etc to keep them occupied then would pretend I was leaving without a fuss and stay outside for five minutes and come in without a fuss again and extend the time till they were fine, this was like over a week just to get them used to it. Close all doors and put anything thats worth anything up and out of reach. It all worked out, Ryker never chewed anything but Ozzy cost us a few bucks  You can always keep them in a room, like close off the kitchen or a spare room. Some dogs do fine others will tear everything apart. I think if you work on the leaving them for little amounts of time and they know your going to come back it should work out.

Is she out of the crate at night?

We crated Zoe for about 2 years during the day while we worked but now she is just baby gated in the laundry room. Unforturnately she still can't be trusted to have the run of the house and she will be 4 in February but the laundry room has her water and bed and plenty of room to move around.

Kozmo on the other hand is only 4 1/2 months and will be crated for quite some time due to being our little devil childfoolicon.

Harley was about 10 months when he proved he could be trusted out of the crate.

The crate now sits empty but he knows where it is if he wants time out away from us. Although he has found the carpet upstairs more comfortable.

There has been no issues or destruction with him be out of the crate 24hrs a day. I suppose you need to test your pup and see the consequences. Just gradually lengthen the time you leave them. I started with 30 mins then 1hr, 2 hr and so on.

Ohh and he is now nearly 14 months.

Hope it works out.

Seven months seems a bit young, but if your boxer behaves herself when you are home and never trys to chew inappropriate things you could give it a try. It would be better to let her on the loose when you are going to be gone for a short time. I would start off by letting him out a night. Don't suddenly give her the run of the whole house. Gradually increase her space. I would start off with the kitchen and make sure her crate is in there so that she can go into it if she wants.

Good luck

We waited until about one year with Rocky and then started leaving him out for short periods of time like when we ran to the grocery store or to the video store. Gradually increasing the time like when we went out for dinner or a movie. He never wrecked anything just decided recliner in living room was his spot. He would be found sleeping in it when we got home (not much of a watch dog). To this day if you sit in the chair and he wants it you WILL move.
