We now have Petco in Charlotte!

I don't know if I've been leading a sheltered existence in the University area...with Petsmart...but I was shopping on the Southside today...and we now have Petco!It had the Grand Opening sign and everything up.....I was bouncing up & down in the car...shouting "Petco...we have Petco"!My best friend obviously thought I had lost my mind !But then she conceded and said that I am a mother too....yes, I said...mine are furbabies...you'res are skinkids.She said nonetheless...you're a mom!

And the best part was...I saw a Boxer!appcion appicon....She was a beautiful Brindle girl named Mocha.She had a wonderful new mom who had rescued her!appicon...poor thing had been abused and was VERY timid...I asked permission to pet her...she said it was OK.Mocha was very timid of me...so I just talked sweetly to her...didn't make any moves towards her..I let her come to me on her own.I never actually petted her because she was too timid & I didn't want to frighten her.However, she came up to me and licked me...then darted off....then came up licked me a couple of times...and darted off, she did this several times...and I was content with that.She did not like my friend though...would have nothing to do with her....and made sure she kept a sharp eye on her.I hate that she has had a bad life prior to her new Mommy...but it was very obvious she has a good Mommy now...which I am very happy for her!

Well....I just had to let my fellow Charlottians know we have a Petco...and share my experience with Mocha!

Well I know there are a few petsmarts in my area but I dont think I have ever seen a petco in my area. I've been to a few but not where Im from. Glad to little girl found a good home, I hate to see a boxer, or any dog for that matter, that scared of people.

I have been visiting the Petsmart on University Blvd. (I think). It is the location off of Harris Blvd. I go there the first Saturday of every month cause that is where a Boxer meetup is to be and no-one ever shows. I`m from Faith, NC which is a tiny town next to Salisbury. How do you get to the new PetCo. Maybe we should give it a try! I assume Boxers are welcome?

Hey Bar-B!

The new Petco is located on South Blvd...where there's a Target, Value City Furniture...Old Navy.I'm not sure of the exact exit name or #...but you can get on 485....hell...now I can't remember what direction !I think it's 521...Pineville?Or you can go 85S to 77S to 485E?....then it's the 2nd exit off 485...keep going to the right...and the shops are on the right.Please check my directions on Mapquest because I can't seem to remember any exit #'s or directions!But I always go to the PetsMart on WT Harris...I live a hop & skip from there....what time do you usually go there on those Sat's?And yes...boxers are welcome at Petco!

Petco - Schmetco

Tulsa just got two new Petco stores. We only had Petsmart and a very good place called Southern Agriculture (where I shop - with gift shop and LOTS of boxer stuff). SA also is the only place to buy the premium dog foods such as Wellness, Canidae, etc.

I went into the first Petco that opened (across the street from Petsmart) and found they were twice as expensive as Petsmart. A box of Nutro dog biscuits is $6.49 at Petsmart and they wanted $11 at Petco. Needless to say we high-tailed it out of there and won't be returning.

We have Petco, Petsmart, and Super Pet here where I live in Ontario. They are okay, but basically if you've seen one you've seen them all. I still use the local independent pet store for most of my furbabies needs. An independent store gets to know you, your dogs (if you take them in) give a more personalized service, eager to order things in for you if they don't generally carry the item. The larger stores are just plain old get the customer in and out warehouse, and if they don't carry what you want oh well sorry 'bout your luck. Don't forget about your independent stores, they suffer when these larger warehouse type stores come into your cities, and it will be a sad day when they get put out of business. Just my opinion

Me too. Plus the indies are far more likely to do special orders and such. The li'l indy that we go to jokes that they have Bax on the payroll as the greeter since everytime we're there he hangs out by the register to say hello to everybody coming in. All of the staffers know him and me, and he gets lotsa lovin' when we go by - plus they carry a great line of products and (the biggest thing for me) the owner refuses to sell mammals or birds, but they do host a rescue day once a month in the parking lot where rescues set up, show dogs and take apps. It's so much nicer than the big stores, but I'm sure I'll send up trying the Petco out just for S&G. It is on 521 (South Boulevard) just inside 485 - about a mile south of Arrowood Road, and a mile north of Pineville.

Who sponsors it? A big reason why nobody shows up may be that I've never heard of it, and apparently neither have any of the CLT boxer guardians that I know. Can you give more info?

Petco...

Well, I HATE to be the bearer of bad news. There was an undercover story done on them here in California. They found NEGLECT of all the animals and even animals starved to death. Cages were FILTHY and animals didn't have water nor food and again, were being basically starved to death. It was the customers who saw something fishy and called KRON 4 here in the bay area. They in return, called down south and there was a HUGE undercover investigation done on them. I don't know about you, but I will never support a company who neglects animals in any way shape or form. It doesn't matter to me if they were not dogs. My parents used to be HUGE supporters of them in Colorado and after hearing that, they do not support them. Not only this, but they are FAR OVERPRICED.
Support your local pet shops is the best thing and also the cheaper thing. Of course if you find the gem of your city
