Seattle Mom

Boxer Pal
Seattle is 8 months old, and we cannot get her to stop jumping on EVERYONE. She will leap in the air in a complete circle and jump on you as soon as she sees you. Telling her down, pulling her off and holding her back is not working. She is like a woman at a shoe sale. (Ok, like her mother at a shoe sale) It is getting that we do not want to take are around anyone because she is all over them. And men beware, she is at the perfect height to do some damage. I am at a lost of what to do. Please help.

keep her on a leash and step on the leash when you anticipate her jumping up on someone. have the person that she is trying to jump on turn their backs and ignore your dog. she will soon figure out that jumping up gets her no attention and/or affection. one of two things will happen as a result,
1) she will either stop jumping on her own because she has figured out that jumping gets her nothing, or
2) she will stop jumping because she has tired herself out from trying to jump up while someone is standing on her leash.
either way, she will stop jumping. just be sure to stand on the leash long enough for her to start to understand.
as she begins to learn, have the person she was attempting to jump on only give her attention and affection when all four paws are on the floor.

Our trainer had us to the same thing that if she jumps on us, we are to turn around. He also had us walk up to strangers/friends and have her sit in front of them before they are allowed to pet her, if she trys to jump, then we have to just walk away and leave. That is suppose to show them that they are losing socialization time by jumping on people. It really worked with Lily, she no longer jumps on people because she doesn't want socialization time to end! Our trainer to this day still uses her story as an example to show people hope because she was such a bad jumper and now she a good puppy!
