about a week and a half go i took my 2.5 year old boxer girl Nike, to the vet because of watery poop with a little blood and lose of weight. she's was on metronidazole, amoxicilllin, endosorb, and Canine I/D Dry. the problem seemed to go away, she had gained weight and the poop was firm. two days ago, i stopped the meds, and started to incorporate taste of the wild, pacific stream formula into the I/D; now that i know, 90% of petstore food is bad. The poop is watery again, and the blood has returned. what should i do now???

My James had the very same problem. We had to change his food a number of times before his tummy settled. We are now using Acana and things are good and solid now.
Talk to the vet to rule out any other possible causes but if it cleared up and then came back- something must be irritating his tummy. I wouldnt jump to the parvo conclusion. Im sure your vet would have spotted this.

Good luck!

I would go back to vet as well. If the antibiotics, metronidazole and amoxicilllin, were working it sounds like you pup has a nasty infection, and it often takes a second round to knock them out. I have never heard of endosorb before, but it says online that it absorbs toxins in the a dogs digestive tract. I'm not so sure a fiber like psyllium wouldn't have the same effect at a fraction of the cost. You would have to discuss that with your vet tho'. I would skip the I/D food and just try boiled chicken and sweet potatoes to get your pups tummy settled, then slowly add in the TOTW. Or even a limited ingredient food like Natural Balance. Good luck! We're sending some healthy firming ((vibes)) your way!

There are a lot of things that can cause bloody diarrhea besides parvo. And that is something an unvaccinated puppy would be most likely to get. Not an adult dog. And there would also be vomiting and extreme lethargy.

TOTW can be pretty rich. It may be that your pup's tummy just can't handle it. But the fact that you just stopped the meds makes me think you need to put her back on them. Talk to your vet. Have you had a fecal done to check for parasites? I also agree with trying the bland diet of chicken and maybe rice or potatoes (I do oatmeal) or a limited ingredient diet for a while.

Just yesterday we had a similar problem with our 8 month old Bailey. She had extremely watery poop with some blood in it. We took her to the vet and after an x-ray and fecal examination the dr determined it was a pretty significant case of colitis. I dont know the names of the medications off the top of my head but he gave her 2 different pills, some gastroenteric canned food, a powder to sprinkle on the food, and a large syringe with some type of brown paste we have to shoot into her mouth daily. It's been a little over 24 hours now since she started all the meds and her poop is not solid but at least it is no longer a watery mess (I describe it as going from chocolate milk to chocolate pudding consistency).

Champ has colitis also

Our 14 month old male just got the results of his fecal test today and it shows that he has colitis. He's had diarrhea for about a month among many other symptoms. I started him on the baytril for 6 weeks so we'll see if it improves.
