Water mess!!

Boot tray sounds worth a try and neater feeder looks like its maybe worth a try too.

Most of his mess comes from wherever he is standing, it mostly spills towards im, but maybe it would help. Bucket could also be a good alternative, i think most of the mess comes from the waves of water he creates.

Ive used a mat before, but never one with a lip that goes around... That could help contain some mess.

I heard somewhere that lifted bowls can increase risk of bloat, only concern with the neater feeder... Anyone have any input?

We have that issue with Bandit. Lola is very neat but Bandit and his crazy underbite gets water everywhere when he drinks and he dribbles as he walks away! I now only put water in bowls that are in the mudroom and I put the feeder(not on raised setting) on one of those absorbent dish drying mats. I also have plans to change the flooring in the mudroom from wood to tile, . Also, when I hear or see him drinking I go and wait for him to finish and wipe his mouth. We keep a supply of microfiber towels(orange are for dogs) that we use only for dog related activities, drying dogs, wiping mouths and slobber from the floor. I do find that the bigger bowls with less water work the best.

We've heard the opposite. We heard that using raised bowls helps to reduce the risk of bloat.

I've heard it both ways. It seems like one of those things where people say it's better one way and then later on turn around and say it's the opposite and there's nothing truly concrete either way. I've tried looking up studies for both sides but I can only find one. Bloat is one of those hard illnesses to peg down, I guess.

I went on their site to check the measurements. The large size without leg extensions has top of the bowl at 8 inches from the ground. I have Thor's bowls at that height now, because he has arthritis in his shoulders and often has difficulty reaching to the floor. I was concerned about bloat when I first raised them. I noticed it is low enough that he still has to bend his head down to eat or drink but not so much at the shoulders. (He is 24 inches at the withers) I think as long as they are lowering their head the risk for bloat will be lower. I have nothing to back that up, but Thor has been eating this way for about 4 years now and we haven't had a problem.

I have a solution!!

I swear we got our answer here at Boxerworld.

Here is what works for us. Nothing is 100% with Boxer jowls but hey, you could have a Mastiff or a Saint Bernard. Yikes!!

We went to the local feed store and bought a metal horse bucket. We can only fill it a third full. And we keep it on a small tray with an absorbant pad. this has worked beautifully for us.

Now they do still seek us out to dry their mouths on our legs but it has almost eliminated the floor mess. No more slip sliding in the water. We might have a drip or two here and there but the problem is pretty much resolved and we owned everything out there. Nothing else worked.

I have a similar problem but it's not from Cerbi drinking. She likes to push her bowl around the kitchen with her nose, spilling water and food everywhere. Probably an easy fix, I just don't care enough to do it

We have a pretty deep bowl that we don't fill up too high. This way their heads stay in the bowl and they lap up the sides, but not too near the top.

The bowl is non skid on a non skid mat.

So far it works for my 14 week old and another that's about a year old: two different size dogs.
