Water mess!!

Okay so this is kind of random, but curious if other Boxer owners experience the same mess.. Now don't get me wrong, I love Dante to death... But when he drinks it drives me insane. He makes the biggest mess... It doesn't matter how full the bowl is, he still manages to get water everywhere. I have put towels down under his bowl, I have tried filling it less, more often, I have tried it on a stand, on the floor... You name it. I have almost slipped and fallen numerous times and I can not keep my floor clean. The day after I mop, the floor has foot prints all over it again. I let him outside, then he comes in and steps on his puddle and tracks prints all over. I can't wipe up after him EVERY time. This isn't a small puddle right in front of the bowl, it extends at least a foot or more out, and nevermind the drips from his lips after he walks away.... Which end up all over the entire dining room/kitchen area.

I have overlooked it a little because we have pretty "industrial" flooring here at this apartment... Water damage wouldn't really be possible... But we are finally moving back to the US in a few months and are looking to buy our first home and I really don't want him to cause water damage, and continue having such dirty floors. I have a 5 month old, I can't mop EVERY day! Not only that but I can't be slipping on his water drips while im holding my daughter.. Nor do I want her crawling through it which is soon or slipping herself once she starts walking. Its impossible to dry the entire floor every time he drinks.

This is sort of a rant, ... But im hoping someone might have an idea? Anything that could help reduce the mess he makes? Id seriously need a full size towel laid out and be replacing it multiple times a day.

We love him, he's part of our family and a "house" dog. I refuse to restrict him to a garage, or mud room, etc...

Side note :: I know he can't help his big droopy face, which is causing the problem. Lol.

We have *exactly* the same problem here at our house. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears!!

PS. -- I wish I was one of those people who can "invent" new products... if I could figure something out for this I'd be rich!

I wish I had advice. Sounds like your boy is really really messy. Lily does get water everywhere, she drips all over the kitchen. I am always wiping the floor up. But they are more like water spots not puddles. Good luck, I hope someone has an idea. I know they sell bowls so dogs don't eat fast, wonder if a water bowl will prevent them from drinking fast and being messy??

I do have one of those bowls for him so he doesn't eat too fast... I should put water in it and see what happens, .

Linda's advice reminds me, I stumbled upon a water bowl that was designed to keep dogs from drinking too fast a while ago. It was a top piece shaped like fan blades that floats on top of the water. Didn't really think too much of it because we didn't have Clemmy yet though she also makes a huge mess. I'll see if I can find it again.

Could you put his water bowl on a boot tray. It would contain the water that he slops out when he drinks. It won't help with the dripping when he leaves, but it might contain most of it.

We have johann's water on a boot tray that is lined with a dish drying/chamois pad.

Seems to contain it for the most part.

Oh.. how I understand!!
Oxford is.. horribly messy when he drinks!
I swear there is more water out of his bowl than in his mouth!

When we go to friends' house, I tell them to remove the water bowls. No dog can have water because of Oxford.

He pours water on the front to the bowl. I don't understand...

I was thinking of trying a bucket. A deep bucket... I am thinking if he needs to put his head in there, at least no water would go over the edge.. (??)

Also what is helping now is a mat I have found.. super absorbent mat that I put length way. I put the bowl far so Oxford needs to step on it. At least the waves (and first drips) go on that mat...
it is called soggy doggy doormat. it's awesome! (also called muddy buddy paw mat) I got it at bed bath and beyond and used the 20% coupon

I saw something advertised on TV awhile ago and I have no idea if it really works but in principle it sounds good. It is called the Neater Feeder and it has sides that come up to contain food and water from going everywhere. It has a grate so the water will catch in a tray below. www.neaterfeeder.com

I am not sure my dogs would use it because they would have to put their head is such a enclosed area. Though I could just be projecting my own claustrophobic tendencies on them.
