I got to work yesterday and poured my cup of coffee and grabbed
the newspaper to scan the headlines and saw a headline about
an abused dog and as I scanned the article my eyes were drawn
to the word "boxer". So I immediately went back to the beginning of the article and started to read. A 3-4 year old brindle
boxer female was found in Charlottesville, Va. with her legs taped
together with packing tape. She had been thrown over a 20 ft.
tall bridge down onto some railroad tracks and had then been
shot in the head with a small caliber handgun and left for dead. But this poor boxer was not dead and in fact had to lay about
24 hours on the railroad tracks with broken legs and a gunshot
wound in her head until someone discovered her and took her
to a local veterinarian. This vet is taking care of her and said
that it would be about 6-8 weeks before she is better. He made
the comment that she was the most amazing animal that he had
ever seen. He said that after all that she had gone through, all
that she could do was give unconditional love to everyone that
came near her to work on her. Well as you can guess, I was
in tears by the time that I finished reading this article. I guess
by now everyone knows that I am sorta "boxer crazy" at work
and so they just ignore me!!

That just amazing, how can anyone do that to another living creature. I am glad she was found in time and will hopefully have a better life now that she deserves :)

This is terribly disturbing. I do not understand how humans can be so unfeeling about animals. I know some people lose patience, and some have stressful lives, and they end up taking it out on the dog; however, I believe there are lots of options prior to abusing the dog. There are plenty enough people out there that would take in a dog in need.

Last night, prior to class with Samson, I carried on a conversation with a person that runs a pet grooming salon. She has 5 rescued dogs. She said the conditions of her dogs when they came to her were unbelievable. She also told me stories about the conditions of the dogs that are brought into her shop, such as mold under matted legs.

My Tyra, that we brought home last week, was so abused. She was so afraid of any normal thing, such as going outside to relieve herself. All of these animals need kindness, patience, and plain old common sense. If a person doesn't have it, then I feel it is no different than what we should do with children, let someone adopt them that wants to give them the love that they need.

What a sad story. Thank God she's in loving hands now. Keep us posted if they catch the maggot that did this to her. Someone must have seen this dog somewhere...

That is horrendous. I am appalled that such people exist. I suspect there is no way to find the cretin that did such a thing to that dog, but if he is caught I hope he goes to jail. I don't know what the animal cruelty laws are like in Virginia, but here in Wisconsin people can actually get a jail sentence. There was a story in the news a couple of years ago about a pit bull puppy that was badly kicked and beaten (a skull fracture -- on a Pit, who have the hardest heads in the world!), all because she had peed on the bed. People actually hunted down the guy who did it and had him arrested! The puppy recovered, and was adopted.

I'm glad to hear that the vet in your area believes that that poor boxer can recover. I'm sending up a prayer for her.

With stories like this there is no wonder why I would rather be around my dogs than some people. I think that humans are the only members of the animal kingdom that could be this cruel. Will she be able to be placed for adoption? Who found her?

Another example of human behavior at its finest... people are just downright despiccable. This poor baby, thankfully, someone found her in time and she will recover. I know there will probably be a lot of folks wanting to adopt her and she will be able to finally live out her life in a loving home. I hope the person who did this is tracked down and sent to prison. A few nights there will rearrange his perspective.
