Baylee is now 14 months old. Besides the first month or so of the whole crate training, etc, she has been VERY good in the crate and sleeps until we wake up. I get up at 5:45 am Monday-Friday and that was never an issue. On weekends, she'd start whining in the crate around 7 or so. If we weren't ready to get up, we'd take her out to go potty, put her back in the crate, and she'd be fine for another hour or two.

2 weeks ago she started to wake up very, very early and will not go back to sleep. The hard part is too that it's at random times. I'm still getting up at the same time during the week, 5:45 but Baylee has been getting up between 4 and 5:30 EVERY morning! Last Saturday, she woke us up at 4:05 and would not go back to sleep!!!! Sunday she got up at 5 and would not stop. We've tried taking her out and putting her back in and nothing. She is howling and whining and barking at the top of her lungs! We've tried to just let her go so she gets used to the idea that it's not awake time yet, but she'll go for 2+ hours if you let her! The worst part is, it doesn't matter when you put her to bed. Normally she'd be in bed from 10:00pm to 5:45am and be fine. Last week Monday we were up until 1 am and she still woke us up at 5:00am!!!!

This is getting VERY old, VERY fast! Please help!!! Any ideas are MUCH aprecciated!

Having the same problem with my pup.. waking up at 2-3am when my roomates come home and then going nuts in her crate.

I just let her start sleeping in the bed with us, and it has all stopped. However i would also like a fix for the crate - cause im sure my girlfriend and I are not going to want her sleeping in the bed all the time.

I have similar problem. Since we have moved to Dubai. We get our dog up early to walk him as it gets really hot even at 6am. 5am is quite good and decent time to get up. What I realize about him: if he sleeps with us on our bed, spreads his body and practically kick us out of bed, he is able to sleep until 7am or even 8am (very difficult to drag him out of bed) but if we don't let him sleep with us on our bed but put him back to his bed which is in our bedroom, he will get up between 2am and 3am. If we don't get up he will whine and cry, absolute trying his best to terrorize us. My dog is 2 years old.

I would love to know the answer as well. Right now we just let him sleep with us so we can sleep a bit longer (roughly 2-3 hours) and drag him out for a walk at 5am.

Bo was a terror last night because of my roomates.. I let her sleep in the bed but she started wakeing up when they got home at 2:00am and started messing with things.. Trying to knock a cup off my computer desk, once it dropped it got up.. let her outside and put her back to sleep in the bed.

she was a hassle i didnt feel like i got any sleep last night.. i kept waking up every hour because she woudl wake up and start scratching the door, or playing with toys.

im tired as can be at work today - which has turned into a cycle..

Tired at work, stressed at home cause of no sleep.. and little help from girlfriend with Bo. She does not discipline, or help with the training.. causing adverse effects on Bo. She gets direction from me.. and then i feel like all my work goes out the window when she stays home with my gf..

Perhaps you have to talk to your roommate to be a bit more quiet when they get home. Your dog is doing what dogs are supposed to do, waking up when hearing noise.

Good luck!

and how about leaving their crate open?
if they do fine in bed, maybe they just want to stretch a little.

I would advise to try not to lock them up at night :)

Caney does this occasionally, she'll wake up too early for me and get herself into trouble (look for things to chew on) while I'm still sleeping. If I let her on the bed with me when she gets up though, she will usually be fine sleeping as long as I am, unless she REALLY has to go potty. If that's the case I can open the bedroom door and let her out (we have a doggy door downstairs) and she will come back when she's done her business.

Is Baylee getting enough exercise? It might be a good idea to try to wear her out a little more so she's good and tired. I have noticed that Caney is restless in the morning only when she hasn't gotten enough exercise the day before. Also, when she was a puppy she was on an unpleasant schedule of napping late in the evenings, so by the time we were ready to sleep she'd be a live wire. We had to start keeping her awake through that nap time -- she was just pitiful, but it worked b/c she was exhausted by the time we finally went to bed. :)

This last week I have been sick as can be and sleeping as much as possible. Well my 9 week old diesel is doing great with sleeping while I sleep. But he has definately had problems with sleeping at night because he sleeps all day long. Once I feel better (soon hopefully) I'll be able to play with him more again. But I really did notice that he needs the exercise. Even if it's just throwing a ball or playing with a shoe string...

I am facing the same problem. Since the sunrise/sunset change a few weeks ago, Sally & Sam have been getting up as early as 3. I am feeling the impact of disrupted sleep. It is getting frustrating.

Could Baylee or the other dogs getting up too early be hungry? Brutus gets about 1/2C of food before bed. He has issues with throwing up acid in the morning anyways. But maybe they are getting hungry, besides needing to potty? I don't know. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
