Vomitting-Pepto Pills

Hello-
My boxer puppy is 7 months old and has been vomitting up his food the past two days. I have read a lot of suggestions on this board and am going to try feeding him boiled hamburger and rice for a few days to see if that helps. Someone suggested pepto pills. Does anyone know what amount should be given? My puppy also eats EXTREMELY fast, so I am going to try to slow him down to see if that's the problem. I've also put in a call to the vet and am waiting for him to call me back. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have the pancreas checked.Try feeding smaller portions of food.If it is the pancreas get back to me I'm dealing with it in an unconventional way,I have a holistic vet.And the pancreas levels could be off just a tiny bit but that can still cause problems.Good luck

Regarding the pepto pills
I would have your puppy checked by the vet first to rule out any other problems that could be occuring. I use pepto bismol tabs for Buddy, but that was after all other causes were ruled out, and the vet suggested it. At 7 months, probably one tab per dose. But please have your baby checked out by your vet.

Susan-Thanks for the pancreas advice. I hadn't heard of that before. I will talk to my vet about it. And buddy's mom, thanks for the pepto dose info. Don't worry, I will talk to my vet first

I give Pepto pills but I have never given more than one in an 8 hour period. I usually give one to Lexus before she goes to bed when I can tell she has an upset tummy (smelly burps). Sometimes I will give her another one if her tummy is still upset in the morning (which it rarely is). They do seem to help though. Take the advice and talk to your vet first.

You may also want to have him X-rayed to rule out a blockage somewhere as well as a full blood panel.

vommitting

Well, I don't think it's blockage because he did keep his lunch down yesterday and so far his breakfast (rice and chicken broth) this morning. This happened another time with the throwing up and I ended up taking him to the emergency vet hospital where they did xrays that showed nothing in his stomach. He's always with us when he's outside, so I don't think he ate anything unusual. We use a dog run that is by our building when he needs to go to the bathroom. Lots of other dogs in our building use the same run and not everyone cleans up after themselves:( so I'm thinking that maybe he picked up some bacteria there.. I'm taking a stool sample to the vet today. I will let you know what happens. I'm hoping that it will just be matter of changing his diet and not anything more serious.

Vet Visit

Well, I took Vegas to the vet on Friday and the vet seems to think it's another stomach irritation. He prescribed antibiotics and tagamet, plus gave him some prescription diet food. So far Vegas has not vommitted since the vet visit, and seems to be feeling fine. The vet also said that hopefully Vegas will outgrow his vommitting all the time. He said a lot of puppies get sick a lot while they are building up immune systems, etc. If he gets sick again, I'll let you all know.
