vomitting from roundworms?

We just brought home our boxer 5 days ago. To make a long story short, we unfortunately bought her from a byb (not really knowing any better), and have been worried sick about her. I went to look at a litter of puppies and instantly fell in love with this sweet little brindle. We were instantly concerned for her well being, and when the breeder called several days later saying that she was ready to come home to us, we jumped and went to pick her up. Ruby is only 5 weeks old and I honestly feel like I rescued her from an ill breeder. We took her to the vet for a check up. She got some medicine for worms and we take her back this week for shots etc. My concern is that she continues to throw up. Not a whole lot, but comparible to a baby spitting up. She eats (alot), drinks plenty of water, and plays quite a bit. If it weren't for the vommitting, I wouldn't worry. She definetely had round worm because we saw it in her poop.
My question is, could she be vomitting because of the roundworm, or is it possible she has a really week stomach. She is getting puppy wet food. (Eukanuba). Should we try something more mild? She is going to the vet this week as they are not open on the weekend. Any help would be great.

Our vet told us that a puppy can vomit due to worms-the poor thing is trying to get them out. My concern would be her age, she is so young. I would call the vet in the morning and tell them what is going on with her. Perhaps they will want to see her and get another stool sample-it can take a few worm treatments to get rid of those pesky parasites. You could look under feeding posts here to get some ideas for good kibble-it is my understanding that Eukanuba is more of a mid-range quality food. I would call the vet in the a.m. I know they could vomit from the worms. We had a pup that would vomit yellow looking stuff, later learning it was bile. It maybe that simple. Sometimes boxers do not do well on an empty stomach. Our cure was a teaspoon of yourt everday and that would help with yeast. Yogurt is a natural digestive emzyme. As far as food, you could look into Natural Balance. We heard the first couple of ingredients should be meat. Natural Balance 3 out of 4 are meat. I guess it's personal preference. Availablity would also be a factor. We read everything on this site. I dont know if this helped you. I hope it all works out for you! If we dont know we ask or read. Vomitting

Thanks for the great help. We did get some yoghurt and she has kept her food down better. She goes to the vet today and then again on Wednesday for shots. She is really young, so we are staying on top of it pretty well. Although she left her mom really too soon, I am glad we were able to get her healthy. I know the breeder would not have done so. Thanks again and we will try all recommendations till our Ruby feels better.

It could be the worms and/or the worm medicine that's making her vomit.

I'd suggest a better quality food for her than Eukanuba though. There is some good information on how to choose a good quality dry dog food at www.boxerworld.com/feeding and if you take a look through the feeding forum you'll find lots of previous threads with some good recommendations for foods. Something like Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Canidae, Innova, Natural Balance or Canidae might be a good choice, though there are plenty of other premium foods around. At her age, she should also be fed 4-6 small meals a day.

I will be changing foods- I think to Chicken soup. We'll try that. I was at first under the impression that Eukanuba was pretty good. The breeder suggested it ( I should have known better- again). Shes allready better and I really have hopes that she will be 100% soon.

We took Ruby to the vet and she recieved a shot in her stomach and a special mild food. Since then, she has been eating rice with a little bit of dry food mixed in. She is finally keeping all food down and putting on some weight. We are all resting better. Thanks for all of the good advice.

Rubysue, I am glad to hear the little one is doing better I am surprised someone would sell a puppy that early most states require the pup to be at least 8 weeks. From what you have said earlier, it sounds like your dog is much better off with you though. I hope your furbaby continues to perk up best wishes amy

I'm so glad that your puppy is doing better. I'm shocked that the breeder let her go @ 5 weeks. I'm glad that you got here, though, b/c not everyone would do that much for her. You are doing a great job with her. I'm sure she will do better on the Chicken Soup. I have Colby, who is 11 weeks, on Canidae, and he seems to be doing fine. It's very comparable to Chicken Soup. I read the recommendations on BW for choosing a good kibble. It's really very helpful. It sounds like your baby is already doing better, so just keep doing what you're doing!

Finally healthy

After several long weeks, I have to share with you all, that Ruby is doing very well and thriving. No more throwing up and she is growing like a weed. Now she is almost too playful and aggressive. We are starting to work on the biting which is occuring too often. Thanks for the awesome site.
