Help, I need advice! My 14-month old female started refusing food fequently, then when she did eat, she vomited it up a few hours later. This has been going on for 3 days. She has been at the vet since the first afternoon. They have done a stool analysis, an x-ray, and a full blood test. The only thing wrong is a slighty elevated pancreatic enzyme. She takes water and is not yet clinically dehydrated. At first she was listless and depressed, but her spirits are better now even if she is still not able to digest food.
Has anyone seen this before? Is it possible for pyloric stenosis to suddenly appear? Help! The clinic is an excellent one, but all 4 vets are puzzled.

My 2yr old female has just come out of a 6wk stint of Pancreatitis (Spelling?) and the symptoms you describe are the same as she had. We took her off all food and started her on just boiled chicken and White Rice. We gave her this for 2/3 weeks then little by little we added her dry kibble back into the mix until she was back on 100% dry kibble. Our vet said as long as she didn't get worse that her system would calm down with the chicken/rice diet and she would get over it. We also had a prescription for the first 5 days to give her 3 times a day. I can't remember the name but it was to calm her stomach to stop the vomitting. The first couple days she still vomitted but not nearly as much as she had before. But after that she stopped and seemed to want to eat more each day. The vet said to start small so we started with about half of the normal amount of a meal for her. She eats 2x a day so we kind of split the amount of one meal into two. As she got better we increased the Chicken/Rice and then the same with the Kibble. Her blood work showed the same elevated level. Good Luck with your baby.

In addition to the chicken and rice diet, you may also want to try giving your dog some prilosec if the vomiting continues - that is what my vets recommended for my dog's pancreatitis. Hope your dog has a speedy recovery - Cathy
