Quincy was on CeeNu for his brain tumour (it is still given to humans with lung cancer and I actually got the meds from Princess Margaret cancer hospital in Toronto). He tolerated it very well. There is a rare side effect in which CeeNu can cause fibrotic lungs and that unfortunately happened to Quincy so he could not complete his final round of chemo. Quin was given 2 months and lived 11 so I believe the chemo was well worth it. I hope you have similar luck.

Just like the others, I am so happy to hear that things aren't as bad as they could be. Remember to be open minded and that you can always back out of treatment if it makes Austin too sick. Just like with people, a little suffering can be worth it if the outcome is having him with you longer and maybe the side effects won't be so bad...it's probably worth a try at least. Please keep us up to date on his progress...we'll all be thinking about him :)

I am sorry to hear about the cancer. Speaking from experience, chemo treatment is not always as bad as it sounds. Please remember that you are always in control. When my baby went thru this I got some great advice here about giving some supplements to support the liver. Thinking about you, and sending lots of good vibes for the cancer to go into remission and stay there for a long long time.

Oh boy. This morning I am crying again. But different kinds of tears. Tears of comfort, knowing that all of you care so much about us. There really isn't anybody I can really talk to about this, people that would understand what I'm going thru and how I'm feeling. But all of you do. My baby boy is all spread out sleeping on the couch, and I just sit here and stare at him trying to take every inch of him in. The last couple of days have been such an emotional rollercoaster, I feel like I've been hit by a truck. I've been thru three different-well four now-kinds of cancers with Aus, and this is the first time I haven't heard the word "cure". This time it's "remission". So I guess that means we're basically buying time. ANd I'll take all that time I can get. I only hope and pray he can tolerate the treatment, and everything depends on how he responds to treatment. Someone had asked why I had to wait two weeks, why my regular vet can't start the steroids. My husband is going away for a week and I can't pick Austin up to take him in and out of my truck. Plus he really feeds off of my stress and nervousness. Neither vet feels there is an urgency in Austin's case, so I guess that's good, too. And I'd rather my hubby be here in case there's an issue with any of the meds.

Gmac, thank you for the links, I will definately check them out when my eyes calm down a little from all the crying.

Again, a huge, heartfelt thank you from both myself and Austin. Sometimes I feel so alone, then I come on here and know that I am not. I can say anything and won't be told I'm overreacting. Or that he's old and he's gonna die anyway. I won't be judged for any decision that I make. Aus turns 10 on Sunday, and he's having ice cream cake! (just don't tell my vet-he's always ragging on me about his weight!)

I just logged on and saw your post about Austin. I saw to myself OH NO!! Then I see where you posted again and have a better prognosis. You and Austin have been through so much with his past cancer tumours but he got through before and he will again. I just want you to know that I'm keeping you and Austin in my prayers. I am praying for a total healing for Austin. Wish you & Austin didn't have to go through this. Sending lots of healing vibes and hugs from myself and Ali. Take care.

I'm so glad to hear that you have found a great oncologist to help your boy. Finding people you mesh with and can believe in is key in things of this matter. My mom faught cancer (and won) and I know the doctors and her oncologist were awesome, which made her fight easier. Although they haven't mentioned the word "cure", whose to say he can't be in remission for several years? You just don't know, and I hope he is. :)

Oh my goodness! I was so upset by the first posts, and then read the more positive posts and feel better. If it makes you feel any better, my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer when she was 89. She opted for a mild form of chemo that helped her live without hardly any symptoms at all until she was almost 91. So chemo can actually give a better quality of life. Sending you both lots of good boxer vibes! I'll be praying for you.
