Hey there,

I am wondering if anyone could provide information about growth rates of puppies. Our female GiGi will be a year old on Dec 8th and is still very small - she weighs 36 pounds. It seems that everything I have read states that growth stops around a year and I am wondering if this is actually true. Has anyone experienced growth spurts and/or 'filling out' beyond the year mark.
She has also always been on the thin side, although she eats a lot.

We love her no matter what, but we are getting frustrated defending her to people who seem to accuse her of not being up to the standard of the breed. I don't have any info on the size of her parents. Could her size be linked to any type of genetic abnormality?

Any information would be much appreciated!

She will fill out until she's about 2 1/2 - 3. So you can look for her to gain 10-15 pounds more until she's done filling out, which will put her on the small side, but still close to the boxer standard for females. :) As long as she's healthy, I don't think you have any reason to worry.

She might just be a little girl.

We waited for Sammi to fill out, and it never happened. She's completely healthy, but she's 3.5 years old and only weighs 37lbs. She eats all the time but is VERY, VERY active.

Roxy is tiny. She's almost 2 and still weighs under 50 pounds (she fluctuates right around 48 pounds) I like her being a "petite little lady", it's easier to carry her like a baby. ;)

My girl is on the small side too and people make the comment that she is too small to be a boxer. She just turned a year old in Sept and only weighs about 45 pounds. I like her the size she is--she already takes up way too much room in the bed!! If she were any bigger, I would have to buy ME another bed to sleep on!!

It's quite likely your girl will only gain a few more pounds by the time she's done growing. I adopted Tae when she was 13 mos old and she weighed 40 lbs. This past July, at 31 mos she weighed 45 lbs. and my guess is she's done growing.
