I would second what is being said about the hypothyroidism-my boy was diagnosed a few months back and since being on the meds has done much better. He also had very bad skin (all year scratching and covered in hives and hot spots) and is still on a small dose of steroid. The thing with the undiagnosed thyroid is it is a vicious circle-they don't feel well, gain weight, are legarthic so the weight is coming on and they do not have the energy to run around to get it off. My boy , who has severe SAS as well, is now active, happy, and engaged again. He has lost about five pounds in the past few months so I would not attribute too much of the weight gain to the steriod, particularly as your girl is off it now. I also switched him to Timberwolf Organics which has really helped his coat-he has not looked this good or been this "puppy like" in a long time. I do not feed according to the recommendations but rather have, with my vet, determined his ideal weight and feed him toward that goal (he has about 2 lbs to go and then it is maintenance). We do a lot of blood work on him as he is on a number of meds (cardiac as well) but so far all his bloods are great and he is one happy dog. Good luck to you and your girl.
