Yes, rawhide bones are bad. Any type of cooked (or smoked) bone is dangerous, and rawhides are particularly bad.

From a recent thread, Gmacleod states the following:

And in addition to the reasons already given about choking and chemical ingestion, they have also been known to cause blockages in the intestinal tract (again, from swallowing pieces) and bacterial poisoning.

There are many many threads about raw hide, if you care to do a search. What is wrong with rawhide is also covered on the boxer FAQ page here: www.boxerworld.com/faq

Feel free to do a search on "rawhide" :)

Hey Halo, I see you are in Nebraska? Where abouts? I am in Omaha, and I had a terrible time finding a quality food. If you are in Omaha, there is a GREAT store called Nature Dog. They sell ONLY quality pet foods, all the ones Courtney listed earlier. It is located on th and Maple (near Hiro Sushi). It is the only place in Omaha I have found to buy good dog food. Otherwise you will have to order online. If you are near Omaha, let me know!

interesting

We are down in Lincoln, and from what we can see quality food is going to be difficult and costly to find. We are continuing to research different ideas though. We are thinking since mom likes to cook to make homemade foods for us. Mom is a little cautious though she wants to make sure it is healthy and has all the nutrition that we need to be big strong happy dogs. Mom is also looking at taking our rawhide away which would definately make us very sad because in 5 yrs my big sister has never had a problem. Guess we are just lucky though.. It is going to take reading and research to find something that works for us and mom's budget.

I know that there is one store in Lincoln that sells high quality foods, but I can't for the life of me think of what the name of it is. When we went to Nature Dog, they were telling us about it, but I didn't pay much attention since I don't live in Lincoln. You might try looking up Nature dog online (do a search in yellow pages or something like that) and calling them and asking who they reccommend in Lincoln. Good luck!
