Very droopy eyes

My 10 month old boxer Molly has very droopy eyes- Almost like a bloodhound- The vet wants to operate on them after she is a year old. Has anyone out there had this done.

Diego has droopy, open eyes too. Click in my gallery and take a look, but I'm not sure if I have a good enough close up to see. I'm a little suspicious about surgery, unless Molly has recurring problems with infections or something. Is there another vet you can take her to for a second opinion? Just curious... ~ Lisa

Hammer has very droopy eyes too, frankly Hammer has droopy everything ! I think it adds to his character. I am always adverse to any surgery unless there is a reason, other than cosmetic, to warrant it. And to my knowledge, in most cases this doesn't cause problems most of the time. I think the droopy eyes add to his adorable character!! Just makes that sad face even more pathetic! :p

Droppy eyes here to !!!

Duke my rescue has droopy eyes to....it builds his character !!! Though I have never heard of surgery for it.

Chy has droopy eyes too. I've never been told she needs surgery. I agree the others. It adds character to her.

Daisy also has droopy eyes - sometimes they are red too. But like the others said, unless it subjects her health, leave it be. (How would you be able to resist those things?)

Go to my gallery and check out Layla's eyes...they are VERY droopy and light hawed as well. My vet told me to have the surgery done and I told him NO THANKS! What a load of crap! As long as your baby's eyes are not overly irritated or infected there is NO reason to do this. If this is a concern you can rinse daily with saline. My breeder has also told me that pup's eyes tighten with age, and then when they get older they will go slack again.

I had someone else suggest having Layla's eyes "fixed" for the showring:eek: They said she could "easily" have her eyes tightened up and the haws tatooed black so she would win. I feel that showing is an evaluation of a boxer's breeding potential and if her eyes are considered that bad of flaw then she won't finish and I won't breed her. But to be dishonest in order to "win" is terrible! Especially because surgically 'fixing' the eyes won't change her genetics anyway! Sheesh!

Another thing that bugs me...my girl has light haws and when she gets excited the blood flow increases and they turn bright red. They are not infected - she is just excited. It drives me NUTS when people think there is something wrong with her!

On light haws - assuming we're talking about unpigmented third eyelids (??), then its a cosmetic fault only, though apparently occurs more frequently in flashy dogs. As such, that *shouldn't* be much of a factor in whether or not a dog finishes, or is bred from.

Stella has one of these - and yeah, it can look a bit freaky when she's excited.
