Thanks all, for the advice. I guess I'd classify him as dominant, given everyone's comments. And it's only me that gets this attitude. I've spent a week with the trainer walking (simply heel, sit and down), and Diablo's behavior is remarkably better! I guess I have been a softie. Now that he's beginning to get the picture that I intend to be boss, his overall behavior is changing. Wow!

P.S. I still let him sleep in my bed :p

I'm so glad he's doing better. WHat a smart mama you are to know when you need help and do what you can to get it. Good luck!

Diablito willl be castrated this week, which should calm him down in the next couple of months. No one here can understand how i can be so "cruel".

He's taken very nicely to his training, I guess it wasn't too late!

yeah, unless there was a genetic defect in him, that is often associated with inbreeding, then i would suspect that it is only you being a "softie". there is no reason that you can't have fun with your dog, give them treats, and do all the fun things dogs love and be the dominant figure as well. it is not being mean, dogs are naturally pack animals and need that family structure (heirarchy). the sooner you establish that order (through obedience training) the sooner your dog will begin to respect you.
i am the sole trainer of winston, and he knows it. when other people tell him to "stay" or "heel" he loses focus, begins pulling, wanders around, etc. when i am in command he listens perfectly, and will stay as until i tell him "ok". eveyone thinks it is amazing, but it is only a dog listening to his loved and respected owner. establish that relationship and you will be fine.
good luck
jim
