What are we going to do. I hate when some dumb people say is that a pitbull. Boxers look nothing like pitbulls. duh.

My neighbors are affraid of Mason. He does look like a pit mix though, just his eyes and nose. Everytime he and Leena are in the back yard, they go inside. I told them that he is a big sweetheart and they still don't care.

That is so funny! I am just always amazed at the liberties people will take in saying the things they do. They don't hesitate to say the rudest things that could offend someone or hurt their feelings. Maybe I should go around speaking my mind about people's children. Call them ugly or stupid, see how that would go over. I don't judge others I try to understand that what might be imortant to one person may not be to another. Plus, why are these idiots frequenting Petsmart like stores anyways? Like was said, if you don't like or are scared of dogs, don't go to Petsmart! If I don't like to swim, I don't go to a local beach and berate those who are standing in the water!!!! Amazing! I too had to tell someone not to come to a Pet Store if they didn't like Bingo. These people were about to scream and after I ran into them several times i the store, I told them next time they should just stay the h...ll home!!!!! Why are they even in these stores??? oh well. I'm getting some good ideas on what to say now tho!!!!!!!!!! Thanks everyone for sharing,,,keep it up! It's so nice to know I'm not the only one frustrated!!!

I have to admitt, a apsolutly hate it when people ask if my boxers are pits! My aunt actually agrued for 2 hours with me one night that she KNEW that Ramses as at least half pit, becuase he looklike like one. Ramses has the tall slenderness of a beautiful boxer....she didn't wanter her son near him! It was awful, I just told her that if she couldn't keep her comments to herself anymore that she could just not come anymore. I really don't like people critisizing or falsly judging my dogs, or anyones for that matter. But especially mine....Dont mess with Boxer Moms!

I think this says it all about the misconception!

My two girls had heartworm treatment together! When they had to go get their shots, they stayed overnight in the same pen.

The most recent overnight stay my boxers had (and probably their last), the vet tech had her six year old nephew at work with her and he was just dieing to play with a dog. Who do you think she let him play with?

--Two precious female boxers named Meta and Nala.--

Why?
-- Because they were the friendliest and the safest!!!!!

GOTTA LOVE THOSE BOXERS!

I agree!!!

When I went for icecream on evening, there is outside seating and there are no signs posted saying no pets allowed, I don't take her inside and we usually go after walking along the water front, well if you could have seen the people 'crawling the walls' (because of where I was sitting) just to get past Cola, like if she was an alligator. I even had people ask me if she was a pit??? All my poor sweetie wanted to do was eat her frozen yogurt in peace, ok and maybe lick a few passerby's...:p but people are funny. I don't approach strange dogs, especially if they are unleashed...if they are with their owner I trust that they will have their dog under control as I do with Cola. I hate the question - does your dog bite? I feel like saying yeah, don't all dogs bite? She just doesn't bite humans (unless provoked i.e. burglar etc. and even then I have my doubts!!! ) anyway just consider the source and go on....smashicon

not pits but BOXERS

I know how you feel. I have a wonderful neighbor yeah rightsmashicon . He thinks he knows it all. He has accused my dogs of being mean and aggresive and attackers(this is the kind of person I just totally avoid. I have tried to explain but oh well he is Mr. Know it all). Simply because they will bark at him and any other person or thing that they do not know(I think they have an extra sense that lets them pick out just the right people).

If my boxers are approached they will start the all common trait, the boxer wiggles and jumps and my girl has the wiggle just down right. Sometimes I think she will come undone. My boy has the jumping to the tee. They have also been mistaken for pits. I simply explain and so far all have been receptive to the explanation. I usually take them to PetSmart and had have only good reactions.

My theory explain to those who want to listen and those that don't well let them run the other way.

I too like the fact that Dempsey LOOKS intimidating. I've mentioned in previous posts that my son is a high functioning autistic. Having a dog that LOOKS intimidating and is as protective of their family as Boxers are, means that if my wife, while I'm at work, needs to run short (by short I mean less than 20 minutes) errands my 12 year old son can be left at home with the dogs. Truthfully I'm more concerned with the "trouble" the dogs will get into.

Whenever someone asks me "do they bite?" (usually a child) I always say they've never bitten anyone yet, emphasizing the yet. Then if they ask if they can pet them I'll say if it's OK with your Mom/Dad of course you can. Then if Mom/Dad has a problem with my dogs I just chalk it up to their ignorance. It's not that I don't want people to love my dogs, I do. It's just that the more people that find out how loving and friendly our dogs are, the more people will want them that really shouldn't own a dog that is as demanding as our babies can be. That just increases the number that end up in rescue or worse. To turn a phrase, I'm blissful in their ignorance.
