Wild venison or raised-for-food-chain venison? Well, either way, I guess you're talking about feeding it cooked (since we're not in the raw feeding forum)?

If it's cooked you're intending, then I'd suggest either just dicing it up and lightly searing the pieces. Or alternatively, make a nice "doggy stew" with it, adding a few vegetables and maybe some offal.

If feeding raw - just hand it over in a meal sized bit, or chunked. The dog will do the rest :) Venison is probably the only meat that bones are better avoided (they tend to be brittle) so feeding just the meat may be prudent.

Back to source though - if it happens to be wild venison, then it's worth either freezing the meat for a couple of weeks before feeding it, or else cooking it quite well. That's just a standard precaution (that you'd also take yourself if eating wild game) because wild meat won't have been raised with vaccinations, deworming, etc.

We feed Roscoe wild venison. Dbf hunts in the fall and winter so it is free meat for us! He butchers the deer and grinds most of it up into one pound burger packages. We take one out of the freezer every few days and boil it to give to Roscoe with his kibble. He just LOVES it. Dbf also makes jerky out of the burger and we use it for treats.

Yes cooked, its been in the freezer for awhile i guess its ok to cook up and give to them... how long is too long for it to be frozen?

I dont think it matters as long as it doesnt get freezer burn. We were eating frozen burger from 2005 hunting season at the end of 2006. Now, we have gone through all of that and are eating the 2 he got in the 2006 season.
