Vacations

Nestle

Boxer Buddy
I'm just curious about what everyone does about their babies during vacation. Of course, we love to take Nestle with us but sometimes it just doesn't work out. We find someone in our family to take her for us, which she loves cause it's like her own little vacation. Do any of you use a kennel as an option? I don't think Nes would be able to handle it. She goes crazy when she's locked up...I don't know what the deal was but even from the time she was a puppy she would go crazy in a crate (no separation anxiety outside the crate though). So, now that summer is approaching, let's hear about those vacations!

We personally don't really have alot of money to take any vacations :( But I would try posting a tread on the Reciprocating Boxer sitting. I have made a bunch of friends here. I have watched a few other boxers and I know they would watch Bailey for me if I was ever to get away...

I use a kennel for my two, and they seem to like it. My favorite kennel is a small one, and the play area is big and grassy. They keep my two in a special room for *geriatric* dogs away from the *juvenile* dogs since Pepper is 12, so they keep each other company. It's a room with a couch, rugs, etc. almost like home! It is expensive tho, esp. if you are gone for any length of time, but I don't worry about them when they are there.

We just got back from Maui for 8 days and they stayed in the kennel, with a great area to play and sleep. Its climate controlled and I just took her fave pillow. She was so hyper when we got home!!!!! Ready to play mom!

my hubby and I travel a lot. our vet has a boarding facility. we use them every time we leave. our boys love it. they get to spend time with other dogs, they get playtime, climate controlled enviorment, three squares a day, and lots of love from the staff. we always get "report cards" on their stay, they behave better for the staff than they do for me!:D I aslo feel safe that if anything went wrong they are already at a facility that can handle emergency cases!

Spoiled Kids!

Most of the time we take family vacation witch includes "all" of us but on those special vacations when we can't take them, they get to go to "Grandma's house" witch they love or we have my brother come stay at the house either way our kids are well taken care of!!

I have used boarding facilities in the past and the boarding went well. Kailee has stayed with our son and DIL when we go on short mini vacations, as well as friends places. This year I have NO IDEA what we are going to do.
Clyde has crate issues as of right now, so a boarding facility no matter how large the kennel would only cause him undue stress. My son has since added his own furchild to his family, so taking both Kailee and Clyde along with his Rusty is just too much given their work schedules etc. Our friends that used to dogsit are also now a 2 furchild family, in a smaller home, so taking my two is out of the question. My family well.....taking 2 of them on a days visit is enough. My father, who in his old age has lost all sense of humour, informs me it takes 2 valium for him to get through a visit with Kailee and Clyde there
We have looked into dog friendly hotels, cottages etc. for this summer to no avail here in Canada.
Although a vacation is very much needed for both my husband and I this year, I doubt we will be able to take one. I am trying to locate a dog friendly condo in Fla for Sept. so my fingers are crossed something will come up. If not, it may be a road trip, sleeping in the car and playing on the beaches during the day. I have looked into renting a motorhome as well, No Dogs allowed :( I hedge on even thinking we may have to go back to the old days of sleeping in a tent and relaxing with the bare necessities

Mommom and Poppop's house! :D :D :D I talked my parents into watching Scooter for a week in March while we were on vacation at their house. We have left him at the breeders a couple of times but there is no place like Mommom and Poppop's. My parents just love having him even though they won't admit just how much they like having him there.

When Hubby and I went on vacation, I posted here in the Reciprocal boxer sitting forum. Baileysmom watched my baby and he had such a great time with Bailey and with them. It was so comforting to know that he was with people who would snuggle him and love him just like we do. We looked at some kennels and just couldnt do it. You will find great people here at Boxerworld who would be more than willing to watch your babies while you're gone. It was the best thing we could do for Muggsey and for us and we would return the favor anytime.
