Boxer Pal
Ok so we went back to the vet today to get Berkley checked out for a discharge (yellow) and frequent peeing and drinking. She is 17 weeks old. I haven't been so worried about the discharge as I have read about puppy vaginitis on here but was a little more worried with the drinking and peeing more frequently. Problem being I had to wait until the prednisone was out of her system so he could rule that out (he said the prednisone could cause this type of symptom - last Monday). So we sat waiting for a urine sample (me holding a cup on a rod and trying to talk her into "pee pee on the paper", yeah right! Too much going on in the office for her to hear and smell). Well, that didn't work so he got a little bit on a q-tip looking thing and took it to look at it. He did blood work to check her glucose - this came back a few points over but he said that he wasn't worried about a few points as she had just eaten breakfast before we got there. So conclusion - puppy vaginitis with a UTI. He gave her 2 weeks of simplicef 100mgs and Muricin ointment 15 mgs.
He also asked me if I am going to have her spayed (which I am) but will talk to him more next Tuesday when we go for her last set of shots to see when he recommends doing so. My question is and I should have asked him... but will the spay make this go away? I have read that sometimes it does and also the first heat could (if I understood correctly). Could the discharge be the cause of the UTI? She has been through a lot the past month, although the discharge she has had for sometime - before any health issues and I know her system is building back up (made it through parvo - she was up to date on shots when she got parvo - 3 sets - I was floored when they said she had parvo as up to that point she really didn't go out and still hasn't until that last set of shots), unknown allergy - she broke out twice). So I know her little system has been through a lot as for the past 6 weeks we have seen the vet at least once a week to make sure we are doing ok. She is doing great otherwise, her weight has picked back up, her coat looks great, she plays like a maniac -
. So any input on this would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to figure out if this is normal (since she was sick). She was perfectly healthy before the parvo and she is doing really well now - they say she looks great at the vet. Other than a few things (the unknown allergy and UTI/Vaginitis).
One more question is the lady at the vet said that I can start to put her down (I carry her into the vet - and don't dare to put her down). I'm afraid of her catching something else. This is why I have decided to keep her in until the last set of shots next Tuesday. Is this silly? She said she already had parvo and can't get it again. I would love to take her out to walk but I am still scared. Thanks for the help.
