My 12 week old female puppy has a UTI, i think. Frequent urination, excessive squatting with no pee, a tiny bit of blood in the urine, etc.

It is Saturday night and the Vets office is closed on Sunday. Should I go to an emergency clinic? Or can it wait until Monday?

Thanks.

Phone the emergency clinic and see what they say. Your puppy is probably miserable, so I would want to get help as soon as possible. See if you can find a vet that is open on Sunday. We have quite a few vets here that have sunday hours.

I hope your puppy is better soon.

That's funny because my female is having a similar problem but she just finished delivering 4 days ago. I was also concerned of a UTI because of the frequent urination?? I wasn't sure if this is normal but thankfully my friend is a vet and she said she would look at her tomorrow. but if you are sure your dog has a UTI it would be a good idea to get them into the vet as soon a possible because speaking from experience.......they are not fun!!!! and they hurt!!!

just our of curiosity do you have your dog on any meds??

My baby is going through the same thing, he has all of the syptoms but no blood. My vet is closed on Sunday as well. He's gone to the bathroom about 18 times in the last 2 hrs! I think I'm going to end up taking him tonight!

My 4 month old little girl is going through the same thing right now. About a month and a half ago we took her in to get it checked, because we didnt know what was wrong. She had the same symptoms (trying to urinate and blood in urine). They said it was a bladder infection and gave her some pills. It cleared her up for the time she was taking them, and about a 2 weeks after. Now she has it again. She has some type of yellow discharge along with the blood. We are going to take her to the vet tomorrow to see what they can do for her this time. Hopefully everything clears up. Good luck with your puppy. If anyone has any ideas of ways we can help prevent this, if possible, please let us know.

If the UTI has come back, ask your vet to do a culture so you know exactly what anti-biotics to use. We went through the same with Layla when she was a puppy and it went on for months :(

At that time there were no facilites where we live for a culture do be done, and not having experience with UTI's we didn't even know the could be done. In the end a sample was sent off to a veterinary teaching hospital and they sent back the appropriate anti-biotic details and her UTI cleared up and never returned.

We just want through this, how frustrating it is. Brindy was on Baytrill for her UTI. Went back to the vet a week later because she was still having accidents in the house. She never had blood in her urine, but when we went back her PH was still too high 8.5, and should be between 6.2-7.0% no higher. WE are taking in another urine sample on monday. I pray her PH went down. I have since switched her food to Chick SOup. I told the vet that it had cranberry powder in it so he said it would hurt to go ahead and switch. There are no holistic vets in my town, but my vet is great he's willing to work on a more homopatic solution if we are still having problems.

Trust me ya'll I know what you are going through.

This has been a common post lately. It seems like a lot of peoples dogs are having this problem. One of my dogs puppies got one at 5 weeks and they found crystals in the urine and he had bladder stones. He was doing the same thing, struggling to go potty and couldn't and when they did a urinalysis he had blood and thick mucus looking stuff in it. It a dog has a really bad UTI and can't urinate it can end up poisoning the dog i believe. I would definately try to find a vet. It is so sad to see puppies go through this. Hope she is feeling better soon.

UTI follow up

First of all, Thanks for all the concerned replies! We had an awful night that Saturday night. She had to go out frequently and had loose stools as well. She seemed back to normal on Sunday, only once having trouble peeing. We took the urine to the vet on Monday to have it tested. They sent it out and told us on Tuesday she had tested positive for white blood cells in her urine. We are giving her clavamox for 10 days. She has been fine so far. We will have her urine tested again after the 10 days is up. I have heard UTIs are common in puppies, especially female.
