MomofMontana

Boxer Pal
I posted a while ago about our soon to be year old boxer with hip dysplasia. I wanted to thank everyone for their guidance and concern. The ortho vet said that he feels that Montana is not in need of surgery at this time. Basically is of the approach that to be invasive when he has close to normal functioning is not good. But he also said that in time, dogs that have FHO or other surgeries show no less incidence of arthritis or pain than those who are not surgically altered. He also mentioned that boxers can go through a "painful" period between 6-15 months, and that if we monitor him for another 6 months and do not see an improvement, we can take him in for another look. Those of you that have been through this before, what do you think? He is no longer on Rimadyl (only if needed) and I have been advised not to run him. Just take him on several short walks a day to maintain leg muscle strength and also to keep his weight as it is. Thanks in advance for any feedback!
