Wasn't expecting this!

Well, I'm lost. I thought I was lost with her just not being here for the day. My puppy is in for spaying today, and I just got a call from the vet. During surgery, she found that Sox's lymph nodes were very swollen. She is very concerned that it may be cancer. They cut some of it out, and are sending it in for testing. She's only 4 months old!!! I feel like I am losing my best friend.... has anyone else run into this problem (swollen lymph nodes) or know what it can mean? How did it turn out? I'm praying, praying so hard that it comes out ok. I couldn't handle losing her!

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry to hear this. I hope and pray that your vet is wrong and it is something minor. 4 months is just way too young! You are in my thoughts and prayers and please let us know when you find something out. I send you lots and lots of hugs and positive vibes! Give her a kiss for me too.

I'm so sorry to hear about your stress! I was a wreck when Tess was gone for spaying and now to get this cancer scare on top of it! I am so sorry!

I've never had experience with cancer in dogs, but I've been through a number of cancer scares with family members and friends. The best advice is not to start worrying until you have something to worry about. You'll know soon enough whether or not its cancer. Don't wear out your "worrier" on "what if."

I know it's next to impossible advice to take, but trying not to worry is the best advice I can give.

Keep your hopes up and keep praying! I'll do the same for you.

I know that it is difficult, but try to hang in there. In some cases lymph nodes enlarge when allergies are present and sometimes they enlarge for no discernible reason. Will keep my fingers crossed in hopes that it proves to be nothing. Do keep us posted ~ Cathy

I have no experience with this but Bubba, Bella and myself are sending healthy and healing vibes to your baby..try to stay calm until you have something to worry about..I know easier said than done...

I am so sorry. Please try not to freak out yet. Swollen lymph nodes can be a result of other things too. Like Cathy said, it could allergies and it is the season especially with this heat. Sending tons of positive vibes to Sox (cutest name) and some great big hugs. Please keep us posted.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Lymph nodes can be swollen for a variety of reasons. I have some in my neck that are always enlarged. I first noticed them in 1995 and they are still palpable (can still feel them). Irritation or infection, among other things can lead to enlargement.

Hopefully, this is just a minor bump in the road!

Keep us posted.

while always good to err on the side of caution, remember that lymph nodes are the body's way of saying "hey...something isn't right here". It could be allergies, some dogs have probs due to the weather, or maybe they are the one odd dog who have hormonal issues which cause systemic issues like this. There are many, many options besides cancer. I have been down the cancer road - 3 times now (Simon, Max & Abby). The wait for the pathology report sucks, but has to happen, and you will soon have your answer. If the vet saw no other visible signs of cancer, take that as a good sign. My 3 weren't so lucky. Their cancers had all progressed to the point that there was no going back by the time they were diagnosed.

Crossed Paws and Boxer Wish-Wiggles from the Crew to you.....don't cry because of what could be......live for what is now. :)

An update, some good news, but major concern

Thank you to everyone for the wiggles and hugs! I went and saw the vet this afternoon, though I still can't pick up my baby for another 2 hours (b/c of the anesthesia). She made me feel better, but showed me what she cut out for the biopsy..... I was in shock. I went to school for biology, and this still put me over the edge. She said she felt it would most likely come back as an infection of some sort, but regardless of what it was, there was treatment for anything, even the worst case. HOWEVER, she did mention to me that she fixed another boxer today, and saw the same thing.... swollen lymph nodes, and such an abundance of them, she said this was very odd. I immediately asked, was it a brindle? female? She said yes.. and they were the same age. I knew this because I had met one of Sox's littermates and her mom at PetSmart one day, and we had realized we went to the same vet etc..... we both (Sox's sister's mom and I) compared notes about the breeder we had gotten them from, and realized that there had been some "conflicting truths" told to us by these breeders. The vet thinks something "strange" may be going on. We are going to wait until the results come back..... but if there is something that can be traced back to them, should we be concerned and report it to someone? I mean if something is going on, these people should no longer profit off of these beautiful animals. Though, of course, I wouldn't trade Sox for anything in the world, I just want to make sure if this is the case, noone else suffers. Any advice?
