Unattended Boxer!

When we had 1 we did and I imagine when our puppy gets a few months older we will try it again with both. We started by leaving for only 10-15 minutes then it slowly grew to be longer. We have had a couple of incidents with the trash can but other than that it was all good. We just started it slowly and then went from there.

We've had this discussion and I don't think we will give up the crate. I can't say never but we feel safer with Oskar in the crate. I would hate to come home to him and he's gotten into something and got real sick or worse...
He's a year old and is really good about not getting into things though. He also loves his crate too. He often goes into it even when we are home to sleep. I really think he would miss it if we took it from him. It's your decision and what ever your comfortable with.

you know that was one of the only things that wasnt messed up about our rescue. We leave her in the house with the cat unatteneded for up to 8 hours (as we both work) I come home from lunch to take her on a pee break (live in an apt. ) she has not been too bad.Got into some biscuts once that I swear the cat gave her as they were on top of the fridge 
My wife and I tried to leave Bella out to roam when we weren't around, and it was a miserable experience...
We started by leaving her uncrated for 45-60 minutes, when we would go shopping or to dinner...she started out great...no problems what so ever...we would come home and give her all the praise possible...then we graduated her into 1-2 hour breaks...and then ultimately into 3-5 hour breaks never leaving her alone more than 5 hours...
once we started leaving her alone for 3-5 hours she started becoming destructive...It was hit or miss too...one time she would be great the next time she would be destructive...when i say destructive, she would chew on cell phone chargers, she would climb the couch and go on the counter to get a spatula and chew the spatula, she would tear up news papers that were on the table, and she even destroyed our coupon book...
these are things that happened over time, but then she started having accidents in the house...and that is when we decided to go back to the crate...Bella doen't particularly like her crate, eventhough we continually praise her, when she goes in there...and she doesn't have any accidents in the crate...

Diesel (2yrs old) gets left to roam the house with our golden retriever. He gets a little crazy when we try to crate him. However, before we leave we make sure there is nothing that he can chew up. Have to make sure all remotes are put away and that there is nothing on the kitchen table or on the counters that he can reach.
Daisy (11 months) gets put in a crate. She is destructive when we are home I just couldnt imagine leaving her out when we are not home. Not to mention that the breeder told us we would be crazy to leave two young boxers alone and unsupervised!!

We leave our boxer unattended at home.. but we have to Rushy proof the hosue before we leave. Meaning everything must be off of the floor that he could possibly eat or could cause him harm when we are not there to stop him. ALL counters must be cleared or he'll stand up on his hind legs and pull stuff off with his paws. We have to make sure all the cupboard doors are securely shut or he'll open them.
Other than that he is fine. Most of the time there is someone here to keep an eye on him though. We have 2 other roomates so there is usually someone home.

When we first got Tessa we had a dog walker come in for an hour every day at the same time, but it's not cheap. So, after a few months we asked the walker to come a little later each day so that eventually one of us would be the person she sees next. We found the process went extremly well and she no longer waits for the walker to come.
We work long hours and not crating her is out of the question - we just know she'll destroy everything. besides, their crate is their safe place and if no one is around for a long period of time, they feel safest in their bed.
Although when we go out for an hour or so we'll leave her the same room as her crate, but we don't put her in there. To our surprise, she's in her crate when we get home, not locked up just as comfy as ever - in her safe place.

I have left Trixxie out a time or two, but as she's gotten older, I believe she's more attached to me, and now I won't even go shower without putting her in her crate or in the bathroom with me.
