Um....Where is the rest of it?

Sunday evening DH said "Raine has something in the yard and she won't give it to me."
OK?
He has taught her to run from him when he wants something she has. He "takes" things from her rather than making an exchange or utilizing "drop-it".
Of course now she thinks it is totally cool for daddy to chase her.

So I don't give it too much thought but did ask what he thought it was (should we be concerned)? That really didn't get me anywhere and she eventually came inside so no big deal. Had it been a GREAT find she wouldn't give up on it quickly. I went outside to look in the general vicinity she was in but it was dark out so I didn't spot anything.

Yesterday afternoon I am getting ready to take her to the vet. I see her outside with something in her mouth. I thought it was a stick. She likes to just walk around with sticks in her mouth and she chews as she walks breaking them up into a bazillion pieces, never ingesting them. She won't give up a stick either without an exchange so I don't bother calling her until I have something.

As I am walking up to her I can't believe what I see. It isn't a stick at all!
She has the entire leg and foot/claw of a bird sticking out of her mouth and she is jut gnawing at the top of it that would connect to the body (still meaty). EWWW!

I decide that I ain't touching that so keep the treat I have and get a paper towel to retrieve it with. Get that accomplished but wonder.....

WHERE IS THE REST OF IT??

Needless to say there were no smooshy faced kisses going on last night.

She ate it  Then again maybe the legs were all that was left after a cat ate the bird. My cat tended to leave the legs and the beak. :)

I might have thought she ate it but....she didn't have enough time to ingest a bird of this size (going by how long the leg was) with the small amount of time that she had the "whatever" the night before with DH. He was outside with her the entire time and it was about 3-5 minutes. Unless of course she swallowed it whole but then chewed off the remaining leg to save for later.
If she had been eating it verses just running around with it in her mouth then I know she could have consumed it in that amount of time (I guess) but I have never given her a whole bird before!
We have had a stray cat hanging out occasionally which she promptly chases out of the yard and I suspect it was the cats dinner recently. I also suspect there is yet a 2nd leg waiting to be found. nonoicon
Also just thought....no feathers anywhere!
I still have the leg and considered taking a picture of it but methinks that is just wrong on so many levels. RIP Birdy!

Had the same experience a month or two ago. Just so so sick. Our neighbor has cats, some which go outside so there is a possibility one of the cats grabbed it first. Now if she would only patrol the bunnies so our garden isn't destroyed!!

We had a similar situation with Thor and a rabbit when he was about 1 1/2. Thor had the body, (made DH get it), but we couldn't find the head. (Gross, I know) Talked to the neighbor the next day. Thor apparently had gone to show off his "prize" to the neighbor's dog, and it grabbed the head thru the gate/fence. I was so thankful Thor hadn't eaten the head! The saddest part was the rabbit was a mama. Our neighbor took the baby bunnies, and tried to feed them for a day, and realized it was going to be too much work, and then found a wildlife organization to raise them.
