Boxer Pal
My 1 1/2 year old boxer, Hannity, was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis about 10 months ago. He had large amounts of blood in his stool and was losing weight as a puppy. By administerting prednizone, another drug, and switching his food to IVD venison and potato we were able to bring his digestive system under control for a few months. Some of the signs are coming back again now that he's been off the medicine for a few months. He's starting to lose control of his BMs again (our carpets have already been cleaned once and the house is only 6 months old). The medicine we put him on seemed to do as much harm as good (we all know how bad steroids can be) and I'm VERY hesitant to put him back on those. The prescription food continues but obviously isn't as effective anymore.

I guess what I'm looking for is advice from someone who has been through this before with their boxer. We love Hannity and there is no question he's a major part of our family. But it's getting harder and harder every day to have to let him out 3 or sometimes 4 times during the night and to listen to him cry when he's 'going.' We've spent almost $4,000 on getting him diagnosed and treated. Going back to the vet doesn't seem like an option as we know what he has and that it's not curable. If anyone has been through this and seen it get better over time, that's exactly what I want to hear. Unfortunately it seems those stories are few and far between.

Thank you so much for your help.

I'm sorry your puppy is sick. I remember the early days with my Tazzy crying in urgency to go out in the middle of the night only to see nothing but blood.

Taz was 6 1/2 when I got him he had ulcerative colitis, pancreatitis, and a mess of other stuff I put him on a natural routine and only once in 5 years did he have to take medicine for the colitis. If I strayed from the program the problem came back once we went right back on it life was good.

PM me for more information.
