We're supposed to hear back today about the blood results.
He still wouldn't eat this morning. I've tried ground beef, I've tried cottage cheese, I've tried baby food, I even tried a small piece of regular cheese and one piece of kibble. ANYTHING to get him to eat or show some interest in food. He sniffs it, and walks away. Yesterday he did get some into his mouth, but then it dropped right back out. Anyone have any suggestions as to what else to try? I've read about giving them chicken, but what's the best way to go about that? I think I read somewhere to boil it? I guess I can do a search on bland foods and see what I come up with.
He won't drink water either, so most likely I'll have to go back to the vet anyway to get more fluids for him.
He looks so frail. I wish he could talk so that he could tell me what's wrong w/ him. The vet weighed him yesterday. He's only 26 lbs. He's only gained 2 lbs in the past month (well I'm sure he's gained more, but I don't know how much he's lost). The emergency vet weighed him in at 39.5, but I think they accidently got Crash's weight, because that's how much Crash weighs.
Anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong w/ him? Personally, I would think if it was something he ate he would have been over it by now? We're on day 4 of no food. The vet said it's really hard to diagnose what's wrong at this point since Tyson isn't showing any sort of pain. He's hoping the blood results will give us some answers, but if those come back normal, I don't know what else to check?

Tyson's symptoms sound similar to the ones my mastiff had last spring. He was diagnosed with enteritis, and after a few days in the hospital with IV fluids and meds, he recovered. After discharge, he wouldn't eat his prescription food either, but wolfed down the boiled chicken, rice, and broth (fat removed) that I prepared for him. I also gave him Pepcid first thing in the morning. Hope your furbaby feels better soon ~ Cathy
Our Mya had pancreatitis and regularly had to have her serum amylase and lipase levels checked. An abdominal radiograph also confirmed the diagnosis. Is your dog exhibiting any signs of the discomfort (ie restlessness, frequently changing psoitions, etc) that is usually associated with it? ~ Cathy

Yes. He is actually always changing positions. I never thought anything of the restlessness before because he's always been a bit restless, but now that you mention it he has been more fidgety lately. He'll lay down and stay in one spot for maybe 5 - 10 minutes (sometimes more, sometimes less depending on if he's sleeping or not) and then get up and shift. He was very shifty at the emergency clinic on Sunday. I really should have done blood work that night cuz I would know what's wrong by now, but the vet made it sound like it was unnecessary. :rolleyes: She was even reluctant to do X-rays, but I insisted.
The only thing that is baffling me is he isn't showing signs of pain. The vet was digging pretty good into his abdomen yesterday and he didn't even blink. Did Mya show any discomfort when her abdomen was examined?
Edit: Just checked some symptoms of pancreatitis. He has the following:
Vomiting
Not eating
Hunched appearance
Depression
Dehydration
Temperature yesterday was 102 and Sunday was 100.
Argh, I wish the vet would open and call me and let me know what's going on.
The only thing that is baffling me is he isn't showing signs of pain. The vet was digging pretty good into his abdomen yesterday and he didn't even blink. Did Mya show any discomfort when her abdomen was examined?

ARGH!!!! I'm frustrated. The vet just called. Said blood work looks normal, just showing signs of an upset stomach, which he expected. No signs of pancreatitis. I told him Tyson is still not drinking or eating, so he suggested I get a syringe and force him to eat. :( He says since he's not vomitting at this point (although he has nothing in him to vomit up?) it's worth a shot. He says if that doesn't work to call him back and we'll have to explore other options. I guess the only other option would be to stick him w/ an IV??

I am so sorry that you are going through all of this. My only suggestion would be to go to another vet and get a second opinion. Something is obviously wrong and it seems like it's not just an upset stomach. Muggsey and I send healing vibes to him and hope he gets well soon.

Well, this is kind of like a second vet because the first visit at the emergency clinic was w/ a vet that I've never met before (and she seemed to think it was just an upset stomach too).
So if I go to another one in addition, do I have them do their own X-rays and blood tests or is there any way to get those transferred? I don't know how that works.
One more hour until I can go home and see how Tyson is doing. I feel terrible being at work when he's at home sick. I have vacation next week, but I'm supposed to be going out of town w/ DH and my sister for 3 days and leaving Tyson and Crash in the care of my dad, which makes me nervous.
