Thanks Rachel :) This wasn't our first time to this vet's office, although it was a new vet. I usually get worried how the visit might go not because of the vet but because Rocky gets aggresive with dogs bigger than him so I try to keep him entertained outside.
We're still working on it and he's making progress, buuuuut we're not ready to sit in a waiting room with great danes or rottys just yet

To Tyson & Ali re: mosquito bites

I live in Mn and mosquitos are our 2nd state bird so to speak LOL. In the summer my Jade gets nailed with bites from those little buggers so they definately can get mosquito bites and with such little fur on them they are easily seen. On a bad night Jade will have tons of bumps all over her, they don't seem to ever bother her but they look so miserable. I bought Advantix for her to try because it said that it repels fleas, ticks and mosquitos and it works wonderful. This last summer I tried another product that claimed to do the same thing (Bio Spot) but it didn't work so I'll only use Advantix now.

my experience

My 2 furbabies that passed last year randomly got hives one day. It scared the heck out of my whole family because we didnt know what it was. We rushed them into the vet and it was hives, apparently caused by any number of things our vet suggested eliminating the most probable causes which were running in tall grasses, food with corn or soy in it (which was the problem), and getting them a new bed. The vet gave us some antihistamines specially for the dogs and they where happy. My Tyson boy also got hives last year, and I didnt know why, the vet never figured it out but I used benadryl and it helped a lot, a few of his hives (that were accessible to him) bled because he picked at them so I bandaged them (cleaned the area well) and monitored them for any changes. It went away and has not returned. Hope all is Well

Deuce has hives, too

It seems that hives are pretty common in Boxers. When we came home for lunch yesterday, both of Deuce's eyes were swollen so we took him to the vet right away and he said it appeared to be an allergic reaction but difficult to say what to. Possibly a bee or wasp sting but could be any number of things. He said that the swelling would go away on it's own and it did in a couple of hours but then he developed hives all over his body. I called back in and he said it was probably just the allergic reaction working it's way through his body and said it would help to give him benadryl, 25-50mg 3x/day (Deuce weighs 50lbs) so that's what we're doing and just hoping it helps. The hives don't seem to bother him very much, he's just a little down in the dumps :(

We r also tyson & ali

Had to have a giggle. My male boxer is called Tyson and I'm Ali... fun coincedence. My 2 babies often getting little bumps, probably because they laze on the lawn and little bugs give them a nip here and there. Goes away in no time. Cheers, love Ali & Tyson in South Africa
