Type of Kennel?

I have Belle in a closed in kennel now. ( like one that you would fly them in ) She has been in it since we got her at 8 wks old. Now she is almost 5 months and we need to get a bigger one. I was wondering if I should buy the same type kennel or buy one of the wire ones. I have been looking at the pictures in the members picture galleries and it seems like most people have the wire ones. Is there a reason for this? I was told to get the type I have because it was more den like. A little help please... there are some many different types of everything. It all gets so confusing. Thank you in advance.

I think it's a personal choice. They will come to think of either as a den as long as it is there personal space. I think most of the wire ones offer the partition that can grow with your dog so that you can buy the crate that will be big enough for when she is full grown but will accomodate her as she grows. Also the wire ones are collapsible so it's easier to transport. Unless of course you will be doing a lot of flying with Belle, then you would have to have one like you already have

I use the metal ones because my babies never liked the plastic ones. They would drool and bark in them. If your pup is used to it them you can go either way. Check around at the prices and get what you feel comfortable with.

I used to have the wire ones, but Mack learned how to unhinge the whole thing and let it collapse a bit so that he could crawl out. Now we're using the plastic ones - where he is literally locked inside (because he figured out that he could pull that door IN and then get out...). I'll post pics soon! Duke does fine in either kind of kennel (I prefer the look of the wire ones - they're less intrusive!)

I have the metal one for Dante. Its easier to clean and transport. It was also nice bc I got the big one right away and he just grew into it.

I have a wire one I bought it because I wanted Foreman to be able to see us, but now that we don't use it anymore I am glad because its hanging on the wall in the garage and doesn't take up any room I will keep it for my next boxer!!!

Thank you for all your suggestions. You all made good points. I think I will buy a big wire one. They are cheaper, which is always good. Thanks again.

I think it partly depends on how warm your house is. If you house is on the cool side I would go with the plastic ones as they are warmer.
