Boxer Buddy
I will start with Cuddles. She had surgery about ten days ago. After her surgery she was coughing alot I called the vet the vet gave her some medication. 1, A cough Suppresent 2. Prednizone 3. antibiotic. Will starting about a week ago she has been drinking alot and having to go out to pee alot. Now I do know that the prednizone will make her do this, but we are geteting very concerened that she could have the starting stages of the Cushing's Disease. we had lost Bandit to it and he had these symptoms at first also. I called the vet and told her this and so she told us to keep an eye on her until Sat. and if this is no bettter then they will run the bloodwork to see what is wrong with her. They said we had to wiat at least 4 days after the medication to bge out f her body totally this would be about sat. We are just very worried about her.
Now Ellie. Some how she got up into out bay window while I was work and hubby was home doing other things and got into a Spinder plant and just shredded it along with a Ivy plant. This was about a month or so ago, I called the vet and was told to keep an eye on her, will Ellie has started vomitting without warning, she will eat and drink and just go about doing something like playing and just vomit. I called the vet back and told her and she said to hold her water for 12 hours and her food for 24 hours then to start her on a blend diet which I got from her. Oh god Ellie thought she was going to die, she wanted to EAT!!! She was on this diet for about three days, she was fine, but she then wanted to eat more, and she attacked the two older girls while they were eating their food and ate some, then about two hours after eating that she started puking. Now her bowels are moving fine, she has energy and wants to play all the time, but we are concerned cause she is puking. If she isn't better by sat she will see the vet also. Does anyone have any suggestions?? We are also giving her Kaopektate 1/2 before she eats to settle her stomach down. We would like someinput before then. She doesn't act any different she is just puking after she eats.
Thanks
Joyce

Did the vet say why he put Cuddles on the pred? It's not usually used for coughing....but it is very likely the cause of her drinking and peeing lots.

I don't think the plants are at all related to Ellie's problem - you would have seen effects much sooner if that were the case. However, being that Ellie is only 5 months old, and she's acting fine and eliminating fine, she's probably just going through a puppy thing. She may be eating too fast (*very* common in Boxer puppies), and my 3 1/2 year old still sometimes drinks too much too fast and then yarfs it back up.

Can you feed her in her crate? If not, try feeding her separate from the other two, (another room, somewhere where the otherse cant get to her and she can't see them) so that she doesn't feel she has to gobble her food down before they get it. Also, large rocks in the food bowl (big enough that she can't swallow them!) will force her to slow down.

I'd also recommend crating her for 1/2 hour before and after she eats, and no water during that time either. Also no water 1/2 hour before or after vigorous exercise. These are steps typically taken to prevent bloat, but they also can help with digestion. (Remember how your mom always told you that you couldn't swim for 1/2 hour after you ate? Same theory.)

Great advice. Gina was throwing up after she ate until I started to crate her for 2 hours after each meal. She doesn't throw up at all now. As a matter of fact, she knows she is to do this now and goes in her crate all by herself after each meal. Of course, she is a very, very, smart baby.
