This Saturday I pick up my new baby girl and boy. This is all kind of new to me and while I have spent significant time reading up I will gladly accept any tips on raising two 8 week pups. I thought I would try one crate at first, then later add annother so each has their its own space. This and any other suggestions on "two" greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me :) One crate is OK for baby puppies (no collars in the crate though ;) ) and will probably mean you have an easier time of it with their first few days acclimatising them to their crate. As they get older though, separate crates is really a good idea. The main problem with two dogs in the same crate is that if there are any arguments, neither dog has anywhere to retreat to.

As already mentioned, 1 crate is probably OK while they are young, but as they get older they will definitely need separate ones. I've always kept my two in separate crates because I was afraid if they got in a fight for whatever reason and I wasn't home, who knows what could happen. I keep mine in separate crates, but they are side by side.

collars in crate?

Why no collars on pups in crate? where is the thread to crate training?
Thanks in advance!

The reason you don't want the pup wearing a collar in the crate is there are too many bad things that could happen. The collar could get stuck to something in the crate and strangle the pup.
Click on the "search" button on the top of the screen and enter crate training. That will bring up any posts that discussed crate training.
Good luck!

Yep, there are quite a few sad stories of pups that have managed to strangle themselves with collars left on in the crate. There's a few that have choked to death when another dog has got it's mouth caught on the collar while playing together too. If you're going to have two pups in the same crate, it makes sense from two perspectives not to leave collars on them while they're in there, especially if you're not home ;)
