Hello - I"ve posted here about Nico's allergies and I suspect that this occurs because of the allergies but I wanted to ask you all what it might mean when I pet him on his back and sides and belly, he almost recoils in twitches and the leg moving in the air - you can pretty much tell he prefers not to be touched. I can stroke behind his ears, his muzzle, head, etc. What the heck is going on? Are his allergies causing him to be so sensitive or could it be something else? Is he just ticklish? I want to pet and stroke my dog! Thank you!

Thanks for the input. We feed Nico Avoderm kibble with a large portion of raw (Nature's Variety). We want to go all raw, but as we increased it he got diarhea so we dialed it back a bit. He's allergic to several foods, so the Avoderm ticks all the boxes without having things in there that he can't have: beef, wheat, milk, peanuts, fish mixtures, potatoes... I think that is it. I may try the Instinct lamb limited ingredient kibble with his raw and see what that does.

Have you ever had a back that was slightly itchy and then someone comes along and runs their hand down your back and that put the itching into overdrive? Same thing for your pup. He was already a bit itchy and by touching him you made him more itchy. I had a dog that was allergice to a lot of things and October was the worse for her. I knew when she was like that skip the petting and just scratch front to back.

Appreciate the thoughts. He doesn't seem to like me scratching him, either. We really thought we were getting a handle on this, but his hair continues to thin, and the low doses of Pred and benadryl aren't doing much either. I started adding Pet Kelp to his food and wonder if he's allergic to that? It can make you crazy, this stuff!
Last night as I was walking him I noticed several bumps on his neck and I am thinking that he has bug bites. (Chigger, mosquito...) Perhaps this is why he is itching and it has nothing to do with allergies. But he is miserable, and that makes mom and dad miserable! I hope we get the thyroid test results back soon. I've never said I wanted a test to be positive before, but if it's his thyroid, at least we can give him some relief. Thanks again!

Megan recently started doing the same thing. Twitiching and the leg going when you touch her back or her sides. I haven't changed her diet but she also has been scratching and chewing on herself a lot latey too.

Napoleon does this often with his allergies. Usually a nice cool bath helps and zyrtec.
