Tumor at one year old?

robynkendall, how did Sam's surgery go? He and my Ozzy are just about the same age (Ozzy is a few months older). I hope everything went well. Where was Sam's tumor at? Ozzy has an appointment with another vet tomorrow, but I will probably end up in your same situation. Hope Sam heals quickly! Give him a kiss from us!

Oscar had tumor on his cheek when he was about 2 1/2. He had to have it removed. I hope youe baby will be ok!!!

Hi, thanks for all the responses. The vet we went to see on Wednesday said that the tumor did need to come off, so Ozzy had surgery yesterday. The vet that removed it said that it looked quite suspicious, so that has me very worried! He hasn't been doing very well after the surgery either. When he was neutered, he was back to his old self by the time we picked him up, but he seems very distressed and uncomfortable now. He has to wear a HUGE head collar so that he doesn't tear the stiches out of his ear and it really seems to scare him. He just stands around shaking. He looks so pitiful! I can't get him to use the bathroom either. Every time I take him outside he just gets really freaked out and either tries to run, or stands in one place shaking. He has also gotten really defensive. If he can't see who's behind of him, he just automatically starts growling. That's definitely not his usual behavior. Has anyone elses dog had to wear one of these before, and if so, how long did it take them to adjust to it? If he doesn't start feeling better soon, I'm going to have to find another way to keep him away from the stiches! Thanks in advance for any help!~

E Collar

My dog had to wear one of these for about a month during his radiation treatment for a mast cell tumor. The collars that the vets give you are usually sort of an opaque white color. They do, however, make clear ones. Pet stores (petco, etc.) usually sell the clear collars. I found that my dog did much better with the clear collar because, though still awkward, he had peripheral vision. He didn't seem to feel so isolated and moved more freely with the clear collar.

Also in addition to the clear e-collar petsmart has a blue and red one and the part around the necks is rubber so its much more comfortable for the dog. One of our boxer has had to wear them. I'll bet your dog will get more used to it, give him time.

Just wondered how Ozzy is doing... Sam did just fine and the tumor wasn't cancer, thank God. Pulled his stitches out though:rolleyes: Have you gotten the results back from the biopsy yet?? Hope everything is okay, let us know.

Hi everyone, thanks for the responses. robynkendall, I'm so glad to hear that everything with Sam went well!! I got up this morning and Ozzy had somehow managed to get his e-collar off. He scraped the scab off, but the stiches looked fine! Our vet said it would take 10 days to 2 weeks to get his results back in, so I still have a few days to wait. Hopefully all will be okay. I still think he's too young to have cancer, but I'm no vet!! Thanks again for your responses. I'll let you all know when I hear something!

Hey, I just wanted to let everyone know that Ozzy had a vet appointment today and his tumor was benign!! It turned out to be a histiocytoma. She said he may get more, but that they are not serious tumors. I am SO relieved! Thanks for all your help, thoughts and prayers. I really appreciate it, as does Ozwald.
