Tubby and Olive Oil!

My brindle pup, Jaz, is nine months old and just seems to get taller and bonier everyday! My husband has dubbed her "Olive Oil" and "Spider Monkey"! She can still walk right through the iron bars on the fence that we were certain she would outgrow by four or five months of age. She's very energetic, wants to eat all the time, and almost always finishes her food when I feed her twice daily (Innova EVO mixed with a little canned). (If she doesn't, Ziggy will.)

Ziggy, on the other hand, is a little toad! He's a typical German boxer -shorter legs, a lot of muscle. (We think he's about 3 1/2 years old - not sure since he's a rescue.) However, he seems to be packing a little too much pork over the muscle. On the last trip to the vet, the doctor told us that they are both healthy, but in the doc's words, "He needs to lose some poundage and give it to her." How do I fatten her up a bit without Ziggy turning into a tele-tubby?

I'm in the same position! Adam is skinny, Evie is a tubby!!

I feed Adam a little more, Evie a little less.

I literally stand between them when they eat so they don't steal from each other. If you find a better way, let me know!

Increase her intake and decraese his. Just stand there and make sure they don't share.

With that said, Innova EVO is a very high protein food that isn't really suitable for young dogs. It is said that they shouldn't be put on to EVO until around 18 months old.

Thanks for the replies. I thought the EVO might be a little high in protein, but the info I received was that around 26% protein was okay, which is what I think it is. Also, I have lost two boxers, the last to epilepsy which could have been a result of allergies to certain foods like rosemary extract and grains (we'll never know). So, another reason I chose EVO - no rosemary in it. Any suggestions for a food they can both eat?

Evo has about 42% protien...

If you want a grainless food with less protien you could look at something like Wellness Core, with is around 32% protien and is recommended for dogs over 1 year of age.

Granted, your pup is nine months, but Wellness Core's age suggestion is a lot closer than Evo's.

Personally I feed Canidae and supplement it with Evangers 100% meat canned forumulas but individual dogs do better on different foods. It is a trial and error type of thing.

Thanks, again, for the suggestions. It's time to buy food, so I will be reading labels thoroughly before choosing a brand. I used to feed Chicken Soup and would switch to Canidae from time to time for variety. However, Chicken Soup does contain rosemary extract and there was some concern awhile back about the quality of ingredients, particularly the salmon that was being used, so I quit buying it. I don't know that Jaz has any food allergies, but the horror we went through with Zoe's epilepsy has made me extremely cautious. I would love to feed only raw and home cooked. However, my work schedule does not afford me that luxury. And, at $45 - $50 a bag, you would think there is a brand out there that will do the trick! Anyway, Jaz is at the vet being spayed as I type, so I doubt that she will be very hungry for at least the remainder of today. Tomorrow I am hoping to spoil her with healthy (weight-producing) treats.
