Trying to get my boxer boys to UK this summer

Our family is relocating to England this summer. Timing is non-negotiable due to new job. It is breaking my heart to read about the difficulties of international relocation as it pertains to my two 3-year-old boxers. I thought my prayers were answered when I saw that Cunard offers ship-board kennels and I could just cruise out of New York (I live in Wash DC) with my babies, but when I called to book a summer cruise I found out that reservations for the kennels are made over a year in advance and they have been booked for awhile. So, the reason for my post.

Do I have any options to take my dogs with me. It seems no carrier will fly snub nosed dogs during the summer (if at all).

Am I being selfish wanting my dogs with me? Is it in their best interest for me to find them a new home (so heartbreaking to think of that as an option).

The only thing I can think of is to try to get them there sooner - before the weather turns too warm. And then find a place where they can live out their quarantine in safety, there. By the time you move, they'll be ready to move in with you.

I commend you for trying, that's for sure!

Alternatively, do the opposite. Find a place here, where they can stay for the few months of summer - and ship them over, when cooler weather comes.

That's a thought. Thanks. My dog trainer has generously offered to take them until the weather turns cooler, but it's a lot. I hate to impose on her, but desperation may convince me to do that. Thanks for the quick reply. That would take care of the heat issue, but the altitude issue is unavoidable it seems.

I move Max from Chile to Indianapolis, on May of 2012. I used a relocation company because there is no direct flight so I need someone to be able to check on Max on the lay overs, all in all it was a 36 hr trip for him, they used Continental/United I think they are good with pets (although there is no guarantees) and they have bigger planes coming out of south america. I think you should be able to find a direct flight to london in one of the big planes so it should not be that bad, I understand you I could not leave Max behind, he is my boy.

I moved my boy from Los Angeles to the UK in June 2009. You should be able to find my info in past threads. I flew direct with British Airways and it all went well.

I needed to start prepping 6 months in advance to avoid Quarantine - I guess you have all this in hand if you plan on flying before July?

It can be done - you just need to plan!!

You could look into container ships... I know container ships will sometimes take a few passengers.

You can definitely fly with your boxers in the summer. We flew out of DC in July and went overseas. Are you on Facebook? If so, search for "PCSing with pets to the UK". The man who runs the page, Dean, is phenomenal. He can help you every step of the way!! It's mostly military people, but I'm sure if you aren't military he will still help. Good luck!
