I am hoping that someone can help me find a boxer rescue in Western North Carolina - We just moved to the Franklin, NC area about 7 months ago and have been researching and looking for a rescue group. I found a boxer at the Macon County Animal Shelter today and took him to the vet - I ended up crying for 30 minutes on the floor of the exam room because of the diagnosis.
The poor baby had a tumor (rapid growing) on his right hind leg, a severe case of heartworms (which I have/had no problem paying for), hookworms and round worms. The vet told me that this was a sticky situation - he wanted to try antibiotics for the growth to see if it was hopefully just an infection - if it didn't clear up in 2 weeks, then we would know that it is more than likely a tumor, he was afraid to start heartworm treatment for fear of the tumor being cancerous and possibly killing him in a few months, etc.....Anyway, I am still upset because I can't save this poor baby, but my family and I want to adopt a boxer... If you have any information on a group in Western North Carolina, please email me - [edited by moderator] or respond here.

Thank you -
Michelle

There are many rescues in North Carolina. One is Carolina Boxer Rescue which covers both north and south Carolina. There are also more in NC if you do a search on the net you will find some. There are many rescues that will also adopt out of state, so one of the volunteers might speak up as well. You can get to the CBR website with the link in my sig :D

PS-I also edited out your email addy. Since this is a public site many people have access to it. This will prevent unwanted mail and protect your privacy a bit ;)

Thanks Andie. I would hope that no Boxer is placed in NC from an out-of-state rescue since NC has more than its fair share of Boxers to place. We do have people up in the Franklin County area so I hope the original poster will consider our rescue.

Please email me - cubby@boxerworld.com for WNC contacts from Hendersonville/Brevard west to Murphy/Hayesville/Franklin area. There are a number of contacts here in WNC. :)

Tara-
Franklin and Franklin County are on opposite sides of the state. The city of Franklin is in Macon County, near the Georgia line. I think Andie may be referring to High Country Creatures (all breed) in Hiawassee, Ga - about 35 miles from Franklin.

Every rescue is full right now I believe because it is summer time and that means trouble. However I feel the adopter has the right to choose where she wants to adopt from, either from us, out of state, or even out of country;) So if for some reason we don't have a dog suitable for her she has the freedom to go elsewhere :D

Thanks to all of you

Thanks to all of you for responding to my post! I have come across a BEAUTIFUL boy that I pick up on Saturday! He is so sweet and loving - I don't think I can wait another 5 days!:D
My husband and I are talking about early next year adopting another baby for a playmate...will keep my eyes/ears open! If anyone knows of a need for a foster home, please contact me (foster home in WNC, that is) I can always make room in my home and heart!

partyicon partyicon Congratulations! partyicon partyicon

I know you guys are excited!

I travel through Franklin (what a great town! I love it!) on my way between Atlanta and Asheville ( I go 64 rather than 441 for the quiet, scenic trip and we like to play in a creek right off the App Trail :D ), so maybe one of these days we can get them together. (There is a beautiful brindle male that I have seen in downtown Franklin, near the courthouse and the funeral home, a couple of times.)

Congrats again - don't forget our insatiable need for pictures!

:)

The next time you come through Franklin, just email me and let me know - I will load the kids (all of them) and we can let the furbabies play! I have never seen the Brindle, but just down the street from us are two Fawns - beautiful boys - but kept outside all the time:mad: :( - I don't think they get much attention. Wish I could help them out!

Got my baby!

Well, my husband and I drove to Clyde, NC yesterday morning to meet our baby - he is now home with us and it feels like he's been ours all of his life! He has natural ears and tail, just too cute! I will say though, our little kitten (3 mos old) bullies him around! It is too funny to watch - Bugsy doesn't know what to do or think! He just looks at me as if to ask " what do I do, mom?!"
Will post pictures when we get some in.
