Boxer Pal
My puppy, Boss, is 7.5 weeks old and the lady that sold it him to me won't give me a straight answer on the breed of the father. Her story has ranged from boxer to German shepherd to rottweiler (today's story). The mother is a purebred boxer and I've met her.
I am concerned with the breed to be able to research the types of behaviors, traits and illnesses to watch out for, but also to be able to estimate the size that Boss is going to be. I thought I got a medium size dog (80 lbs or so), and the prospect of him being half rottweiler, who is 135 lbs is kind of scary. He is adorable and I am not even considering giving him up, just trying to figure out what I have to deal with here.
By looking at the puppy, he looks like a boxer, fawn color with white gloves on his paws, short snout, floppy ears, short hair, black mask. His snout is a bit longer then an average boxers, but his mothers snout was longer as well.
I think I can safely rule out the German shepherd story, since there are no similar features that I can tell. What confuses me is that rottweilers have similar features as far as body type, ears and shorter snout.
Can anyone recommend of ways that I can figure out or estimate his full grown size or the mix breed? When he was 6 weeks old he weighed 9 3/4 lbs. Any advice would be appreciated.
Once I get access to a digital camera I'll be able to post some pics, so this would get easier...
