Trying to decide whether or not to neuter Tyson..poll

I forgot to add that both my Males are neutered. One at 7months and the other was neutered at 3 years (when we rescued him). The reason our Trucker ended up in rescue is because he was an intact male who ran away from his home. His was picked up on a busy highway after being hit by a car. He was lucky that he survived. And do you know what the vet who put him back together said? Looking right at the dog he says “those testicles are that’s what got you into this trouble”.

The previous comments are all right on track. Another thought, what if the female has 10 pups.....Finding good homes for all of them is pretty tough. As the owner of the sire, you would also have some responsibility in finding good homes for all of the pups. You wouldn't want your boys offspring ending up in a terrible or cruel home or banished to the back yard from stupid owners.

I've done all the research and know about health testing, blood line checks etc etc. I also know that markings and such don't make a good boxer. I'm now just weighing in the pros vs cons of not neutering and if I don't possibly breeding.

Please neuter him-anywhere between six months and a year is fine. This breed has suffered so from genetic and hereditary problems I believe there are very few left with the wisdom and knowledge to breed these dogs safely. Does not mean your dog is not beautuiful just that I believe it should be left to the experts. I know I have veered off point from your question and I apologize for that but there are so many in rescue, so many dying young that it is hard for me to not bring it up. We are finally getting to a point where multiple generations have been tested and unless you can really confirm that please do not take a chance. Just enjoy a long and loving life with your boy. BTW , my boy was neutered at at 15 months and the only reason we did not do it sooner is he has such severe SAS the vets did not want to anesthesize him. Then he had testicular torsion (undescended testicle) and we had to -so painful-but he made it and is still with me-bless his heart-at six. I was told he would not live a year. Both of these are passed down... I'll shut up now :o

Just from reading the previous points i would say its not even a question. I can tell you, we too considered not having our boy neutered thinking we might breed him. He was an adorable puppy and every time we went to the park people would comment. We decided to get it done, our vets office encouraged it and offered this "first year of life" program which included the alteration at a discount. At about a year old our boxers face started changing, very slowly. Now at 2.5 years old its very obvious his jaw is deformed. We found out its wry jaw (also known as wry mouth) and basically what happened was his jaw began to twist as he grew. Dogs that have this should never be bred, and apparently his parents should have never been bred either because most likely one of them had it as well. Now we're faced with more problems that we just found out about Tuesday night. These issues all stem from poor breeding. Bottom line is we didnt know these things when our dog was a puppy, so unless your like an expert...you really really dont know what your doing.

Rolen was neutered at 7 months. We had no intentions of showing, so neutering was the obvious and responsible choice. He had an undescended testicle which made it even more important to get him neutered. Boxers have enough health issues, I didn't want to add to the possibility of cancer because he wasn't neutered! I just think neutering is the best thing you could do. I'd leave breeding alone. Good breeders spend a lot of money to breed, for good reason.

I am watching Nightline they are reporting on how animals are overwhelming shelters due to the mortgage crisis. People are just leaving their animals they can't afford the upkeep. I think neutering is the responsible thing to do.
